I bought an LCD screen that had a bunch of "gunk" on the screen. Windex and Isopropyl Alcohol got rid of most of it. Still remaining are some hard black dots that appear to be fused to the matte surface. I thought the alcohol was taking it off, but some remains. I haven't tried mechanical removal scraping it with a fingernail. I haven't tried heating the Windex or Alcohol. It's quite usable the way it is, but the perfectionist in me wants it gone. It's not worth a big blotch on the screen from using the wrong chemicals. Suggestions? mike

Well the one thing I have heard is to try to keep away from ammonia
based products. Using it once or twice they say is okay. But if used
more often and the screen is said to yellow. And I wouldn't try
scraping.

Maybe a CD cleaner kit? The type that removes scratches from CDs and shines up the plastic surface. Just a guess...

*** Be cautious. Windex has ammonia which can discolour a screen.
Alcohol can remove some coatings on some screens and dull the surface.

*** I use ArmorAll, a plastic-rejuvinating product. It is not a
cleaner but can remove some dirt. It mainly smoothens a screen's
surface, fills in little scratches and improves contrast.

*** I would not do that.
Use a high-power magnifier to see if the dots are fused into the screen
surface. If they are, you are out of luck. Ask a laptop repair place if
they have a replacement screen.
