Just curious...

The GETLIN routine at $FD6A, or it's other entry points, stores the input string at page 2 ($0200). It seems that the 1st 5 bytes of that location are always clobbered after I call this. I'm wondering if it's basic.system that's killing it? None of the documentation that I've read mentions any warnings, etc.. from old manuals up to the IIgs Tech reference. Has anyone seen this? I have not tried it direct as a .sys, and I've not tried DOS 3.3..

I don't care if I have to write my own input routine, this is just haunting me. :)

This is normal. All keys input go to $200.
From the monitor, type 200L and you'll see your 200L string starting at... $200.

A lot of games use that area as a protection, data is nearly always destroyed!

Correct. Odd that the 1st 5 bytes are junk! If my string is long enough, I can see the rest of it starting at $0205. I put a BRK after the JSR $FD6A so I can check $200 right away.. 1st 5 bytes are not my string. :(

HAHAHAHAHA! Look at me!!

As Antoine just pointed out, all key input goes to $200!
What bytes are junking up my string???
Let's see..... "200L" ..that's what!!

My fault! I did it again! :)

Thanks again, Antoine!

My dumb is dumber and long predates and surpases your dumb. From my view
anyway. If you look at the tip of my dumb iceberg that I have mustered all
my courage to post, you will note two dumb things immediately:

1. Without any hesitation at all I have proceded to do work that may never
have been possible in the first place without a large team and many other
pieces that were long ago lost if they existed at all.

2. I suggest that other people who are likely saner and more competent
than I become participants in my delusional melodrama.

What you do is conscise and understandable. That part is not dumb...

Even the smartest people are dumb at something.
