The Declaration of Geneva, as currently published by the World Medical
Association[6] reads:

7th sentence: "My colleagues will be my sisters and brothers"

Why is this sentence necessary? :)

Why was this cross-post necessary?

Why is anything Mr. Man-wai Chang posts necessary? He seems to just
have random thoughts and post them to a random collection of newsgroups.
He apparently does not read or understand any replies, but uses them to
inspire new random thoughts.

You've only just realised this?

No, I've been ignoring Chang's posts for a long time (I gave him the
benefit of the doubt when he started in c.l.c.). He goes in the same
bucket as Fir and Ramine - there is always a chance that they
accidentally post something interesting or that triggers a useful
thread, but mostly they are to be ignored. However, it is perhaps
useful occasionally to remind such posters of what they are doing - it's
always nice to think that they might change their ways.

Experience suggests otherwise (although Ioannis Vranos, in comp.lang.c,
was a notable counter-example).

Repeatedly flying in the face of experience to make the same mistakes
again and again is part of what makes us human. Maybe /this/ time, the
poster will listen to reason.

That reminds me, I must buy a ticket for this week's lottery...

Why is discussion of it necessary?

On HackerNews (for instance) you won't even see garbage like that unless
you turn on "showdead".

How about this proposal: let's not discuss anyone or anything
we would not see in a properly moderated forum.
