Remote car start. If you select this, you must donate everything you own to a
homeless shelter. Start with your computer.

DosBox != DOS.

This is a DOS programming forum, so he should first port something to
DOS, say Linux. :)

Well, I started to reply to that as above, but held back for half a day.
You guys starting making fun of the guy, but he might actually be serious.
Although, I'm not sure why he posted about Android apps in a DOS
programming forum ...

Either it's some weird sort of spam, or else "searchhans" is an idiot. Take
your pick.

It could've been a UDP joke. And we didn't get it. :)

This is a reality check for you... You're welcome.

Some app "facts" harvested from numerous app articles:

-over 700,000 iPhone apps
-an estimated 60% or 400,000 iPhone apps have NEVER been downloaded
-almost 2,000 "flashlight" phone apps ...
-only a few thousand apps are downloaded regularly
-only about 100 Android apps downloaded more than 5 million times
-no method to search for apps within app stores... i.e., hard to advertise
an app
-all the top selling or paid apps are games - except Pandora (Internet
radio)
-free apps are 80% to 85% of app downloads - i.e., purchased apps are 15%
to 20% ...
-very strong resistance by most smartphone consumers to pay for apps
upfront
-difficult to "monetize" apps - leading methods: in-app purchases,
"freemium": free + ads
-apps sell better in Asia than in the US (~$3/user vs. $1/user US USD)
-Asia makes 90% of in-app purchases
-iPhone users buy more apps
-Android users almost don't buy apps
-typical app user has about 40 apps - i.e., average app $0.99 USD * 40 =
$40 USD maximum/user
-Apple App store has nearly 80% of ALL app revenue
-prices of top ten iPhone apps varies from $0.30 to $7.00 USD - i.e., not
much
-average price of iPhone app is $0.19/download - i.e., many free downloads

So, if your app is "normal", it won't ever be downloaded. If your app
isn't one of the top 500 or so apps, out of 300,000 that have been
downloaded, you won't make any money. If your app isn't one fo the top
100 or apps, it won't make enough money to be worthwhile. I.e., the odds
are dramatically against you having any success in apps.

However, there are a small handful of game apps which have made large
amounts money. E.g., Candy Crush, Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Farmville,
Minecraft, etc. I.e., someone does win the app "lottery".

Distimo ranks iPhone apps, by free/paid, and quarters (4 months). See
their
"resources" tab for rankings. Select platform, paid or free, or other
options
on left side.

Not true. Every time I get a new Android machine I search for a few select
apps by name within Google's store.
