Alternatively, or in addition to this, you might want to run knockd.
You can keep all ports closed, but when a particular sequence of ports
is accessed, you can dynamically open a particular port for your ssh
connection.

The default configuration file looks like:

	sequence      = 2222:udp,3333:tcp,4444:udp
	seq_timeout   = 15
	tcpflags      = syn,ack
	start_command = /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -s %IP% -p tcp --dport ssh -j ACCEPT
	cmd_timeout   = 10
	stop_command  = /sbin/iptables -D INPUT -s %IP% -p tcp --dport ssh -j ACCEPT

In my case, I have separate open and close sequences, with knockd
calling a script to run iptables with commands for port forwarding.  I
then use the PortKnock app on my iPhone when I want to ssh in.
