Given his intention to live-stream the thing, he has plenty of incentive.
Think of the ratings...!

I don't know what they used on me, but on one of my surgeries
it whooshed me all the way to the recovery room. Quite a ride.

I don't know what they use for eye surgeries but I was semi-lucid. A
hernia operation and repairing a broken hip were fully out of the picture.
I declined the joy juice for a colonoscopy. It was fascinating watching it
on the monitor.

Very semi in my case. Fifteen minutes after they gave me the
magic pill I didn't give a damn about anything.

They must have given me something for my colonoscopy, because
afterwards I suddenly realized that although I was conscious
I was completely out of it. But while I was still lucid I
remember looking at the monitor and realizing to my horror
that there was a Windows task bar across the bottom. "Omigod,"
I thought to myself, "I hope I don't get a Blue Screen of Death."

Heh - tend to AGREE :-)

I note most of the "super-agers" like their
whisky and cigs and nasty foods. Not to
   vast excess, but hardly tea-totaler

   They ENJOY their 100+ years.

They started an IV just in case. The doctor was ex-military and didn't
have a problem with me declining. Afterwards I got dressed and went to
work.

A co-worker had the procedure before I did. His sister retrieved him but
he was walking dead for the rest of the day. I don't know what sort of
jungles juice they used. I was under for a hernia repair, woke up in the
recovery room not too long after they were finished. Called a cab and went
home. No grogginess or anything.

They made a big deal about not driving so I'd also taken a cab into town
that morning. George McGovern was a part time resident and had a bookstore
in Stevensville, about 30 miles south. The driver had the misfortune of
picking McGovern up after whatever he had done. He bitched all the way
home about having to take a cab.

For my hernia repair I walked into the OR at 1:00, came to at 3:00,
and at 5:00 was home and climbing stairs (albeit gingerly).

Surgery does some amazing things these days. I dropped my wife off
at 8:00 to get her gall bladder out. When I picked her up at 5:00
she walked out under her own power. Laparoscopy rocks!

Surgical techniques, at least SOME, have
   improved.

But mostly medicine is just a half-step
   beyond leeches and 'bleeding'.

The docs ruined and killed my brother. Watched
it happen in slow motion. Procedures and pills,
then procedures and pills to fix the procedures
and pills and so on and so forth until his
insurance ran out. Then they DUMPED him to die.

Me, all I've got is MediCare. It's INTENTIONAL.
No endless money mine for the docs/hospitals.
This makes them keep it to the point, JUST
   what's needed, no BS.

Hardly the nicest solution, but, these days,
   what HAS to be done.

Same for my first hernia.
And the Cystoscopy.
But heart ops were local only, with lots of fentanyl
Full jungle juice for orchidectomy and laminectomy - overnight stay and
kicked out the next day full of painkillers.

I was put under for the scopy. Afterward, I broke fast with a

Sadly I wasn't, Unconforable and very painful.

I begged the doctor to stop when pushing a camera up my prick, Bloody
agony, They put me out the next time, and all that happened is that it
still hurt like fuck every time I peed for two days.

Cataract operation was local only - scary and horrible,

It reminded me of a sequence in a video game I'd played, Gears of War,
going down a long twisty tunnel with pools of green water. Every now and
then a miniature pair of scissors would shoot out to harvest tissue for
later examination. It was interesting but I'm just as happy I've passed
the age where they want to do them. Joel might be into having things
shoved up his ass but I'm not.

I had a neck fusion recently and was given fentanyl. I was under
about 5 hours, and had some heart irregularities, so the small
practise sent me to another hospital, by ambulance. I talked to
the ambulance guy about soccer. At the hospital, I lay in a
holding area for quite awhile. I got a turkey sandwich which I ate
in tiny bites. The time in the hospital room was awful. I had to
get a chemical stress test, which wiped me out. I had to beg the
covering physician to let me go home.

Then I had to sleep upright in a recliner, then wear an
electrical stimulator. While walking I tripped over a concrete
klinker and walked the rest with bleeding.

I got used to, riding on my road bike, looking to the left and
right with my limited motion.

But enough about my sillyass.

I had similar e - laminectomy. Took me 18 months to be able to hold my
head up straight and I still have pain from damaged nerves.

Overall the site has a mild right bias but it's often amusing when they
