Well, yes. First day, instant diarrhoea. Took just one pill. Doctor then
put me on something that makes the kidney eject sugar in the urine
(dapagliflozin). Went fine, till I started to have urinary infections
due to the amount of sugar in the urine. Then another doctor switched me
to Metsunix, which is sitagliptin/metformin hydrochloride, and that one
works perfectly, AFAIK. And is cheap.

Many people are on metformin, I understand.

Note ... very MUCH note ... pills to fix the
pills that fix the pills - it's a horrible
   dangerous expensive downward spiral. Eventually
killed my brother at a relatively young age.

Yes, I'm DAMNED WELL prejudiced here. Watched
it happen, and its result. Had to bury him.
   Leaves a mark.

I *suspect* the "expensive" aspect is the
   most important to The System.

Oh, when his insurance ran out, SUDDENLY they
weren't interested anymore - bumped him off
   to the 3rd/4th-tier asshole docs.

Yea, pretty horrible - but REALITY.

And no, do NOT think "socialism" will fix it.
UK news ... wow ... a totally decomposing
   system that helps nobody.

I have been on Metformin for 20+ years. Never had any abnormal poop. I
have been on Zepbound for 2 years, and never had any of the terrible
side effects that some people report. But sadly also never had much of
the desired effect. Minimal weight loss. But I am afraid to stop, in
case I then have a big weight gain.

I cut beer out back in the '70s. The world may be a better place for it.

Beer and wine are now special treats. I don't drink every night,m but I
generally drink once a week. And pay the price in mental sogginess the
next day. Liver and kidneys are not what they were

I agree. Beer allows you to develop a hangover while still drinking it
trying to get a good buzz on. In my youth I got to experience 3.2% beer in
Utah. That uses your urinary system to convert piss to piss.

Up to 16 MB Win95 would set up a swap file. 48 MB wasn't bad. iirc early
Linux was also big on swapping stuff out. I think you can still push Mint

My XP VM runs in 512MB. Mind you, I don't run big programs...

My first Linux box had 48MB of RAM and a 1.3GB hard drive.
I loaded Slackware 3.5 onto it, later upgrading to Slack 7.
I was able to run X (with fvwm), and under Wine I managed
to run a couple of my Windows programs that talked to each
other.

My first distro was Slackware, downloaded from the ftp site in floppy
sized chunks. A lot of chunks. If there is anything on the old Compaq that
must be it.

The CD is gone but Red Hat Linux 5.1 from 1998 says it will run in 8 MB.
