I think the JS-enabled version without CSS hacks collapses some
"folders" by default, you may have to expand "Live-Action TV" for search
to work.

Sorry for this, I keep forgetting the web now sucks more...

I ask that ALL THE TIME ... NO sane answers.

MOSTLY seems to be so they over-work ONE poor
contracted geek instead of hiring their OWN geeks.

However esp for 'critical infrastructure' and
'dangerous' things like chem plants, nuke plants,
refineries and such - BAD BAD BAD IDEA these days.

If the hacks can't bust the password app they will
go after the lower-level stuff that RUNS the
password app. China is nefarious here - has gotten
deep into all kinds of top companies. "AI" approaches
have just made all this MUCH worse.

   Infiltrator/spy.

   CAN happen.

NOT so likely at yer local water plant though.

Bigger facilities, maybe yes. Nobody knows all
their co-workers, people coming and going all
the time. Shit, you could probably run a hardwire
in from next door and nobody would notice anything
unusual. Jihad Jamal dressed like the FedEx guy.

I'm more worried about industrial facilities -
chem plants, refineries, power plants - things
   that can go BOOM.

No, but the fact remains that requiring physical access
is more difficult versus just sitting half a world away

Not more difficult: Just different.

If a national security agency is involved its probably far easier to
bribe someone to stick a usb stick in a PC and run some code than it is
to break a firewall and encryption.

Most hacks are simply because sites have barely implemented the most
basic security and script kiddies have stumbled their way in

Back in the '80s there was a momentary panic when it was discovered an
employee in a nuclear plant was involved in a far right organization. In
that case the reality was the employee was putting in his eight hours like
everyone else and his extracurricular activities didn't involve the
plant.

The Bruder Schweigen, aka The Order, raised various sorts of hell in the
'80s but cyber attacks were well above their pay grade. I'm not
discounting the possibility. In fact given the nutters wandering around
it's surprising there isn't more mayhem.

He and others of the Red Scare era were shortsighted. They focused on the
CPUSA which did march to the Comintern drummer. They missed the emigres
from the Frankfurt school that had fled Germany. In the late '50s and '60s
it was Marcuse, Horkheimer, Benjamin, Fromm and their ilk that were being
read and discussed by the New Left, not the musty Stalinism. The New
School for Social Research became the hub for the refugees.

Tailgunner Joe WAS on to something. However, after
some success, he apparently became a serious alcoholic
and it kinda rotted his brain. He began to make
accusations against people he shouldn't have and thus
got pushed to the curb. Alas his later excesses led
   to considerable/excessive push-back/undoing later on.

Also, USA - not so sure about UK/Euro - has pretty
serious protections against persecuting people JUST
because of their political beliefs. More than "belief"
is required - some kind of active aggressive PLOT has
to be proven. Even in the mid 1950s you WERE allowed
to be a "Card-Carrying Communist". Still are.

It was a little embarrassing that after his war on gays as well as
communists he wound up with the Bobbsey Twins, Cohn and Shine, on his
staff. Shine faded out of politics and despite the allegations fathered
several kids. Cohn remained active in political circles including
mentoring a young Trump, until he died of AIDS.

Strange era. I remember a John Birch Society meeting in, iirc, 1963, where
the party line was Dwight Eisenhower was a Communist dupe and Milton, his
brother, was his handler. Some of the animosity came from Eisenhower
appointing Earl Warren as chief justice. Their battle cry was 'Impeach
Earl Warren!'. Warren was as much a pig in a poke as Roberts.

I think I still have a copy of 'None Dare Call it Reason'. The JBS
circulated it widely. The JBS had its standards. Oliver was booted despite
being a founding member.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revilo_P._Oliver#White_supremacy

Many members thought 'Wall Street bankers' was a dog whistle but Welch was
careful to know which side the bread was buttered on. I was surprised to
find out they're still around.
