Hi NG!
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Newsreader pan no longer works. Headlines are loaded as indicated in the left pane but the body of the messages in the message pane are not shown.
Complete destallation of pan with synaptic and reinstallation does't help.
Any ideas?

To start fresh you will need to delete your Pan configuration files
which are in your /home directory but hidden.

Once you enable "show hidden files"

you should see a .pan    or .pan2 folder which you can delete to start 
fresh...or simply rename in the event you want to refer to it in 
troubleshooting.

Personally I would not use Pan until it comes off Beta, which is 
unlikely to be any time soon.

I had some problems with pan also and quit using it. It is still at a 
low version number.

It's up to version 0.138 and been around for at least 12 years.

It's not the worst Beta I've seen but still too buggy for my taste.


  I use Thunderbird...it has so many advanced features I find useful 
that I don't have much use for other newsreaders.

What I like best is the ability to open multiple tabs...

I can work on one email and open up another to use as a reference if 
need be...etc.

How well does it do binaries though? I like Pan for its binary handling. 
I do agree Pan can be buggy. :(

I must be doing something wrong - I find Pan to be an excellent newsreader, 
works for me!

I'm using slrn to read this newsgroup, but for binaries I wouldn't think of
using anything but Pan.

Pan does it well enough that I just use it for that too.

Check your configurations.  Are you initially downloading just the
message subject?  Check the download message config.  Single click or
double on subject to download message.  Or all messages bodies in the
thread.

I do know that PAN has problems with HTML like from Google Groups, or
ANY newsreader that uses HTML.  Message body pane displays nothing.

That and a couple other things made me switch to XPN.
