It is a gmail feature. It is called two step validation or something -
sorry, I would have to connect via web to verify the correct name. The
thing is that it needs a web client to get the verification done,
something that a plain mail client can not do. Thunderbird does this
using javascript at some logins. You get a popup when trying to login.
