	I have used POP3 on 2 different systems which refuse
to clean out the downloaded e-mails on their own.  I make
it a part of my routine to access the mail servers web interface and
delete those mails.  I leave the spam in a spam directory for
the server to hopefully learn from.  For the spam that makes
to my machine I have lengthy filters which directly move filtered
stuff to my Trash on Thunderbird.
	You can still turn off the cartoons on the latest version
of Thunderbird and I prefer text menus and text-labeled buttons.
