Flat roofs we have in the millions, they are normal here. Commercial buildings with flat concrete or metal roof, very normal. Typically concrete pillars and metal horizontal support beams. But wood beams, not single beams, but made from multiple horizontal beams tied together with bolts and girdles (see the photo), is new. It must be superior to metal beams somehow.
