Spock is interesting as a social phenomenon. Post WWII the air was filled
with the idea of progress driven by science and technology. Here was a
doctor describing the best child rearing practices to new moms based of
The Science. No mom in the '50s wanted to be accused of being old-
fashioned.

Morris Fishbein was another snake oil salesman. His 'The Handy Home
Medical Adviser' was found in most homes and was the last word. He
promoted circumcision for everyone. So clean and hygenic! The kid won't
learn to masturbate fiddling with that foreskin! Besides god approves.

The sheep love their shepherd, even as he feeds them to the wolves.
