Crushing a disk loses maybe $20. Having a disks data stolen could cots 
them $billions
There is no way to be assured other than by doing $10,000 worth of 
testing that a disks data has completely been destroyed beyond foresnic 
recovery, but if the disk is crushed there is certainty.

Likewise the audit trails to determine whether or not the disk held any 
sensitive data or not are expensive to maintain and even more to trace.


$20 is a small price to pay for certainty
