Because it's easy if a bit if a bother.  And I've had no convincing
word from any of my own previous requests for help/wisdom on the
subject that support had appeared in the later kernels.  I did compile
the 3.16.1 kernel with no useful results for the clickpad.

Have you used or seen used a Synaptics 2970 clickpad with it?  How
does the clickpad (that AFAICT tilts two ways) emulate a 3-button
mouse?  I suspect that it will be more annoyance than it's worth.
But thanks for the info.  That may be what the OP needs to know.

I bought the laptop in some haste because vendors told me that ones
with the features I wanted -- large screen and DVD drive -- were
becoming unpopular and would disappear.  Everything else works --
after a lot of dicking around -- as expected.
