If the video card is ancient, a more recent BIOS can't fix it. 
 The Web says 
that the driver you need is the same as the GE-Force 8500.  My Mageia 5
has an nVidia driver for "GeForce 8100 to GeForce 415." My own GTX-750
uses the more recent "GeForce 420 and later," so your card
 shouldn't be 
obsolete.

I don't know how Debian installs nVidia drivers, but you may need
 to download 
and install a proprietary driver.
