#347652 — Can anyone here defend LibreOffice crapware against the masterful MS Office?

If I want to count all the tables and rows in any Access database, it's
just:

    Dim db As Database, td as TableDef
    Dim tablesCnt As Integer, dbRecords As Long
    Set db = OpenDatabase(path to source file)
    For Each td In db.TableDefs
      If td.Attributes = 0 Then
        tablesCnt = tablesCnt + 1
        dbRecords = dbRecords + td.RecordCount
      End If
    Next

Add a few lines of code to time it, and the output from an actual
database of mine is:

2,099,101 rows were found in 114 tables (0.02 seconds)

2/100ths of a second?

FOSS can't compete.

The problem you have is clear.

You became an idiot when you copy and pasted code.

Your code doesn't work because you should have
put the path in for the source file instead of
copying and pasting code you don't understand.

That is the problem with trolls like being allowed
to go anywhere near a puter.

Learn to code in Python. Its a lot smarter than you are.

Its available free for Linux:

I didn't cut and paste a thing, and it works perfectly well if you're
not stupid.

Admission of LibreOffice crapware defeat noted. And that's from a way
old version of Access (2003).

I actually am doing some Python. And unlike you, lying fraud, I'll post
the code when I finish my Python project.

And even if Doof's "solution" is simpler, it's Microsoft-specific,
and not worth putting up with Windows.

Any fool can djinn up their optimized "example", and challenge someone to
do better in another product.

Idiot (no quotes). You "put up with Windows" most of your "career".

So far, no one can do better in LibreOffice. That's my point, Creepy.
See the Subject?

And what do you mean 'optimized'? That's one of several acceptable ways
to do it, all offering excellent performance.

The slowest way is "SELECT COUNT(*)" on each table, but even that runs
in 0.15 seconds.

LibreOffice can't compete.

Highly confusing things like "OpenDatabase" are too complicated for your typical linux user to understand.

Linux users do spinning 3d cube desktops. Something like "OpenDatabase" is beyond their skill set.

Only a linux user would think "OpenDatabase" is MS-specific.

SELECT COUNT(*) is one of those Windows specific things linux users are afraid of. Do you want to see a screenshot of my spinning 3d cube desktop?

But sqlite3 can.
And this is with select count(*) on each table. It's written in C, but
there's a shell script speed comparsion of basically the same algorithm
at the bottom. Imagine how fast it could be if I knew what I was doing?

sqlite3 is a nice piece of work. Their code is well-documented (also
public domain) and their documentation is excellent.

Main issue I have with it is their dynamic data typing: "[the column
data] type is recommended, not required. Any column can still store any
type of data." (except an INTEGER PRIMARY KEY column)

Where's the source code for the C and shell scripts?

That's what they say at Canonical every day.

(you seem to fake it 'til you make it...)

That's 2 columns per table.

Mine has 8.5 (it's amazing)

Kewl, but...

I calculated and reported 11 measures in 0.17 seconds.

You did 2 in 0.26 seconds.

ACCESSPLUSVBAEQUALSWIN

And where's your code for 'count'?

I posted the files earlier in tarball. It included a README, the foo.sh
script, and a "create" file for building a dummy database. Here's the
code for "count" (and remember, this is amateur hour):

-------------------------------------
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#include "sqlite3.h"

#define BUFFER_SIZE 256

int table_count_callback(void *,int , char **, char **);
int table_names_callback(void *,int , char **, char **);
int row_count_callback(void *,int , char **, char **);

int row_count=0;
int t_count=0;
char table_names [1024*1024]={0};

int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {

 sqlite3 * db;
 char * sErrMsg = 0;
 const char s[2] = "\n";
 char table_count_SQL [BUFFER_SIZE] = {0};
 char table_names_SQL [BUFFER_SIZE] = {0};
 char row_count_SQL [BUFFER_SIZE] = {0};
 char *token;
 char token_SQL [BUFFER_SIZE] = {0};
 char *filename;

 if(argc!=2)
 {
   fprintf(stderr,"argc!=2\n");
   fprintf(stderr,"usage: %s <database>\n",argv[0]);
   exit(1);
 }

 filename=argv[1];

 sqlite3_open(filename, &db);

 sprintf(table_count_SQL, "select count(*) from sqlite_master where type='table' and name!='sqlite_sequence'");

 sqlite3_exec(db, table_count_SQL, table_count_callback, &t_count, &sErrMsg);

 printf("table count: %d\n",t_count);

 sprintf(table_names_SQL, "select name from sqlite_master where type='table' and name!='sqlite_sequence'");

 sprintf(row_count_SQL, "select count(*) from (select name from sqlite_master where type='table' and name !='sqlite_sequence')");

 sqlite3_exec(db,"BEGIN TRANSACTION",NULL,NULL,&sErrMsg);

 sqlite3_exec(db, table_names_SQL, table_names_callback, &row_count, &sErrMsg);

 while(token!=NULL)
 {
   sprintf(token_SQL,"select count(*) from %s",token);
   sqlite3_exec(db, token_SQL, row_count_callback, &row_count, &sErrMsg);
   token=strtok(NULL,s);
 }

 sqlite3_exec(db, "END TRANSACTION", NULL, NULL, &sErrMsg);

 printf("row count: %d\n",row_count);

 sqlite3_close(db);

 return 0;
}

  strcat(table_names,"\n");

Eternal-september must've dropped the post.

Not to worry - I don't criticize others code (unless they're pricks
like Kohlmann or Fabian).

And if I can see possible improvements, it's because it's easier to edit
than to create.

Thanks.

At some point I'll get around to testing it, and see if I can update it
to count columns and indexes.

Care to repost it? Eternal-september must've dropped it. Did it have a
link to download the files?

Linux development has taken up most of my career by factor of 3
compared to competing osen.

More Linux and OSX developers out there developing for their
current versions of osen than windooosh developers
developing for their current version (3rd ranking).

http://www.itproportal.com/2016/03/21/os-x-and-linux-rise-developer-market-
threaten-windows/

Windopws developers are 3rd rate.

No wonder microshaft felt obligated to release their crap VC compiler
for free to hook and bait developers that are moving on en-masse to Linux
and OSx.

Far too late to make a difference. Its not the compiler they want free,

You're a liar and a fraud. Everything you've built on Linux was unpaid
hobby crapola. You know it and I know it.

Extremely meaningless. Plus, you have no clue what date releases of OSX
or Linux they're using.

Windows: 52.2%
OSX:     26.2%
Linux:   21.7%

Windows 7:    22.5%
Windows 10:   20.8%
Windows 8:     8.4%
Windows Vista: 0.4%
Windows XP:    0.1%

Ubuntu: 12.3%
Debian: 1.9%
Mint:   1.7%
Fedora: 1.4%

3 rates above 6th rate FOSS hobbyware "developers".

More of your lying bullshit. The free Express and Community Editions
are limited versions. Visual Studio is the most popular IDE in the
survey, and the full-fledged VS Pro is still very expensive.

Too bad you're not talented enough to break away from your Windows job.

You don't know fsck troll!!

You are a lying weepy doxing internet criminal and internet
roll and you should be turning yourself in to the police.

The police should be taking your details down as you already
admit to running from them over a dope charge.
And you are going to go on and committ more internet crimes
with all thse vast files you keep on internet users and
post every so often through your criminal intent to dox internet users.

As a born fsckwit, you must be proud as well now?

If an internet troll like you posting from USA says it, it must be true?

OSX and Linux developers overtake microshaft which shatters and fragments
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had to happen some time.

The news is Earth shattering - OSX takes no.1 spot for developers,
while Linux is close behind 21.7% share ahead of windopws 10
which is stuck at 20.8%.

Outdated versions of windowps make up the rest which don't
really count for much because those trolls can't move forward with
projections with outdated and unsupported microshaft osen.

Linux software is easy enough to write once and it
will work on all other distros. And it will work on future
distros, and vast armies of maintainers to improve
the software if it has any traction with them.

threaten-windows/

By next year, windopws will fade with less than 50%.
By then Linux developers would probably have overtaken
OSX.

So its looking Linux is the most demanding set of skills
out there for everyone to study up and kit up.

Nothing like a completely unfounded, unsubstantiated accusation of
"lying", from a shitty liar like the dumfsck...

He should be throwing himself off a cliff. As buzzard food, he might
actually serve some good purpose.

I'm sure that his shitty pal Ezekreep is proud of him...

Seriously, shit-for-brains? You're going to stand there and defend the
lying, babbling idiot 7?

I have no doubt that moron walks around with head-injury bandages on at
all times.
