Nope. Apple innovated and created much of what we see on the desktop...
for Apple, MS, and every major desktop Linux distro.

The GUI used by pretty much every major desktop distro has the features
Apple innovated with the Lisa and Mac, and many of the things innovated
by NeXT as well.

Here is just a partial list:

* Double clicking
* Trash can (or the like)
* Graying out inactive items
* Checkmarks next to menu items
* Keyboard shortcuts for menu items
* Drag and drop
* Full file system in GUI (as icons)
* GUI based hierarchical folder structure
* Editing documents with direct mouse manipulation
* The clipboard (and later one with multiple versions of the same data
   so you can paste plain text or formatted text, etc.)
* Control panel to set system settings
* Pull down menus
* Desktop accessories (now known as widgets or gadgets)
* Meta-data associations with icons (data about the data being
   associated with the file)
* Self-redrawing windows (at Apple) and later windows where the image
   was still held in memory even when not visible, making the redraw be
   instantaneous from the perspective of a user (called double buffering
   and done at NeXT)
* X to close a window (this is from NeXT - I was surprised by that)

Even MS has added some:
* Contextual (right click) menus
* Drag indicators (to show copying, moving, making a shortcut / alias)
* The Start button

So what has Linux added? Virtual desktops existed elsewhere before Linux
even existed... so what innovations have we seen there? It is a great
playground of ideas -- one of its big advantages -- but what has it added?

Clearly, the sole thought that is important to Rhonda January Bass is arguing he is "right", and if he can not have that he will flood to effectively shout The Doctor down... there is no stopping him. Ending support for Mac Classic is needed for progress. It was Rhonda January Bass who was openly asking how better to hide his scams. Well... like I said, I know the flooder is Rhonda January Bass, who is a C developer but I don't know if it could be used to get by Google's spam filters. I'm not going to play like The Doctor did not aid me when I needed it and I am thankful for his service. Rhonda January Bass has The Doctor's posts to examine and should begin to appear like he grew a brain from here on.

Fool! But Rhonda January Bass feels the need to mock the herd. LOL! Don't be insane, dude... even you have plonked that fool. Given what Rhonda January Bass is not a soul would condemn you for seeking to be rid of his insane brand of farce.

Ah, so many desktop Linux systems *do* use file extensions. Fair enough.

Many Linux file managers use file extensions if present, but they don't need to.
They do so mainly to cater to idiots coming from the Mack and Windoze worlds.

Lots of denizens continue talking to Flatfish. In truth I can not indict Staci Elliot for for his rants but, in the end, I don't grasp why he writes here after all this nonsense. Staci Elliot is hoping for dialog as experienced in a technical venue and unmoderated environments just are not it. Rambling cretin. How is Blender on Linux doing anything above the lowest common denominator?

Flatfish is far too stupid to write a SC script. The only scripting he's capable of doing is automating his trolling in this group.

I think the point is not 100% to get people to listen to him. The point is likely to piss me off for trolling outside groups he knows I frequent.

He upsets an entire group of people who are just bystanders, but that's a conceited fool for you. What others care about isn't a factor. Technologies change. Maybe the ubiquity of a website is getting past its prime.

Good question. It's done that since Windows 95 and I can't imagine
what the advantage might be other than making it look prettier
(because documents have a more presentable name).

I'm not sure why file extensions would be so scary to people either
way. The concept of a file _type_ shouldn't have to be so foreign to
people as it is clear that there is a difference, for instance,
between an audio file and a image. It just makes sense that an
extension would exist to help an operating system determine how to
load a particular file. I know that Linux doesn't require one, but
that granted it just seems logical to put an extension even then.

It misses on the "shine" requirement.

It's better than the Mac kernel. Idiot.

Note:  No response.

TomB: Even Torvalds used (the GPL) for his kernel, and I don't think
he regrets it.

"Hadron" responds:  Yes he does.

Oh, so you're claiming that its also been regularly UNIX(tm) certified?
Or did you have something else in mind that's an objective measure
instead of just making YA stupidly unsubstantiated claim?

Note: chrisv never did respond to the MS-Office clone flaw that
I'd experienced, although I can't recall if that was OO or LO.

So I don't really know if I should bother to point out that his
attempted counterpoint is weak: Android exists only because of
Google's deep pockets and their own self-serving corporate interests.
Frankly, there's no good reason for Android to have been built on
Linux other than it was "good enough" with some of what they needed
when they were on stuck with an aggressive delivery schedule.

Firefox ... yeah, its been a pretty good browser. Does it shine
though? Their product's business model relies on selling eyeballs
via its default search engine to a company who relies on advertising,
so they're in it for the money too.

GCC relies on the FSF, which has a pretty small (~$1M/yr) budget
to support all of its initiatives. The KDE has a charity style
support model and a cadre of non-CMMI volunteers. Neither of which
highlight anything whose processes are inherent to delivering
superior quality code/products. As such, the point stands.

Hell yes, it does; FireFox is the best, by far;
Google poured billions of dollars into it.
Linux ( the kernel, not distros ) also gets plenty of funding.

Profit aside, Apple can't invest, not like Samsung or Amazon.
Samsung is the most popular smartphone manufacturer April 2018;
39% of activations; Apple got 31%, down from 40%, last quarter.

I'd say best depends on the user, for example, if you're a web developer
you might say FF is 2nd best to Chrome. I do like FF's grid inspector over
Canary's effort, which is a (small) step in the right direction:

I know there are plugins for Chrome but I prefer to avoid them if possible.
(by the way, that is the FireFox Developer Edition pictured).

> Google poured billions of dollars into it.

I thought they stopped in 2014 (a lot has happened to FF since then)
when they went with the Yahoo deal? In any event, I'd rate Chrome and Firefox
above IE, Edge or Safari; I freely acknowledge this is largely due to my interest
in web development.

Hm, I really don't like Chrome.

It has issues, but I still use it as my main browser on Win/Lin.
