Some yahoo named Jedidiah joins, snips everything already posted and starts moving the goal posts toward some bizzarre statement regarding attacking happy Linux users. Completely unrelated and a clear attempt at trying to bury the lies of the Linux community at large. 4. This of course is followed by the usual Mafia members piling on the thread replying to Jeddidiah's goal post movement rather than the true topic. One person in particular, William Poaster who seems to be the king of the janitors has a history of this kind of nonesense. So does Chris Ahlstrom. Still with me, Chris Ahlstrom? 5. So this brings us to the topic of Linux users vs OSX/Windows users and their penchant for lying. It's simply no contest. Linux users, unfortunately, lie, lie and continually lie. It is so obvious in this thread alone and across the group it's really puzzling why they would even try to defend themselves. Seems kind of futile to me. 6. So Chris Ahlstrom and ronb, when do you intend to: 1. Admit you lied reagrading Surface Gate. 2. A friend of mine who is in his sixties and very much a computer newbie, had been bringing his Windows 7 laptop over about once a month for the last year to have me fix various user screwups and do typical Windows maintenance issues (malware removal, etc.). Occasionally I would suggest that we could install Linux on his machine. Last time he was here he just came out and said he wants to install Linux. (He had been getting the Windows-10-upgrade-come-on-you-know-you-want-it popups all the time lately). So I verified that he didn't have anything that he would absolutely need Windows for, and I kept his machine overnight and made sure of any hardware issues, then wiped it and installed Debian with Mate desktop. I took it over to his house yesterday and showed him and his wife the basics of the GUI, and they both took to it right away. This is going to make all of our lives so much easier. :)

In fact, I continuously make the recommendation for students and teachers to be forced to use Minix here at work (mostly to circumvent the constant malware problems due to students installing idiocy) but they keep telling me that they NEED to install software like WordQ and therefore can't make the switch. Oh well... That's not a typical Windows maintenance issue.
Why couldn't you keep malware off his system? I haven't had ANY Windows
malware in years. On Win7 I use Avira, but it's unnecessary - it's
never once flagged a piece of true malware.
The one thing I don't do, of course, is blindly install junk viewers and
downloaders, etc, from porn sites.

programs, and not whine about it too much?

Get list of user-installed packages:
Linux: click Start | Accessories | Terminal. Then type:
dpkg-query -W -f='${PackageSpec} ${Status}\n' | grep installed | sort
-u | cut -f1 -d
Windows: click Start | Control Panel | Programs and Features
MS is doomed.
