#349226 — Only the Best People Use GNU/Linux

Stanford University is one of the premiere educational institutions
in the entire fucking world:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_University

CCRMA, an internationally renowned sound and music research
organization at Stanford, uses GNU/Linux exclusively:

http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software

Unlike Microshit Windows, Linux can be configured as
a real-time OS that becomes an unparalleled platform
for audio research.

Only the BEST people use GNU/Linux. The riff raff are
the slaves of Microshit.

Ha, ha, ha, ha! I wonder where these Microshit shills
went to school -- if they went to school at all.

Indeed, most of them are high-school drop outs that
bought their "degrees" from some Internet diploma
mill. Now all they can do is spout off "statistics"
like some fourth-grade schoolboy reciting the
multiplication tables.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Only VERY BEST people use GNU/Linux.

The Microshit shill is the lowest of the low.

Looks like a bunch of geeks interested in having fractals,
differential equations, integral math and so forth creating music.

Interesting I suppose.
For about 5 seconds after which I change the channel to something more
musical.

Anything is better than a geek Linux user creating music via
mathematical equations.

ha!

http://chuck.stanford.edu

They'll have my attention when they can write an original program that
sounds as good as Zeppelin's music:

In The Light: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNo1nS_JV5k
Ten Years Gone: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBzuYNK95sM
Achilles Last Stand: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlRjjGc6pJA

I'm sure the geeks can capture the sound, convert it to code, steal and
alter bits and pieces and make something listenable, but I'm talking
about hearing the music in their brain - the way Mozart might have - and
composing an original program fully in code.

Then there's the lyrics and Plant's voice...

"Hey oooh did you ever believe that I could leave you..."

Do you mean just like you use Google to steal all the information
which you post?

Your brain is Google. Because you have no knowledge or expertise
of any kind, you steal bits and pieces from Google to "compose"
your shit posts.

If you knew how to use Google you wouldn't make all these stupid "can't
be done in Windows" or "there's nothing like it in Windows" posts.

"FUCKING impossible in Windows..."
"I ain't got no tools..."

Pure ignorance.

And Wikipedia. And Stack Overflow. And the Python Standard Library.
And my book of fart jokes. And any other reference I can use to learn.

Same way you steal bits and pieces from imageMagick and g'mic, wrap a
bash script around them, rotate a choo-choo picture 5 degrees and say
"Look Momma, I'm a research scientist!"

The entire faculty runs on Windows and Mac. They recommend Windows 10,
they don't even list Linux as an option!

https://uit.stanford.edu/service/help/hardwarerec/computers

"The Windows 10 operating system includes native encryption technology,
which is recommend when dealing with High Risk Data. "

Essential software - Windows & Mac only
https://uit.stanford.edu/service/ess

Email is provided by Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange
https://uit.stanford.edu/emailcalendar

Yup, looks like the entire University is one big Microsoft userbase,
congratulations however on finding one dusty corner where Linux is used.

Why do you insist on lying and misleading people? You are not helping
the Linux cause one iota.

Oh, but I didn't FIND it. Everybody with both musical and technical
expertise has known about CCRMA since the beginning -- and it is
only one fine example of many.

But YOU, on the other hand, were compelled to do a frantic Google
search and Internet lookup into an area that is TOTALLY FOREIGN
to your understanding. YOU are the one who worked hard to find
largely nothing.

My advice to you, and all other Microsoft defenders, is this:
Don't attempt to use Google as a crutxh to compensate for your
own extreme lack of knowledge, background, and skills. Leave
it for the true experts (if there are any).

It's under Faculty and Staff which as any schoolboy knows means the
teachers (Professors) and the admin staff.

Yet you can't actually show one single verifiable example of that beyond
an open source audio project.

The students don't use Linux Desktop Crapware either, it's Windows and
Macs all the way.

https://vptl.stanford.edu/computers-and-software-available

The multimedia studio doesn't use Linux either.

Yet every recording studio from the smallest in my local town to Abbey
Road use Mac hardware and software.

Nope, I just visited the Stanford University web site. It's really easy
to find all this information, searching their site for the keyword Linux
however brings up SFA. That's how unimportant it is to them.

Except for the fact that pretty much every single department uses
Windows or OSX.

Wrong.

I didn't use Google. I don't defend Microsoft, it's crap in some areas,
those weak areas are filled by Linux servers or Macs. I'm not as stupid
as you are as to believe that one OS can do everything perfectly.

You are the one desperately flailing around and searching for any small
crumb of Linux usage.

The Linux losers lie profusely. Literally everything they post has
some form of half truth or lie to it.

They are just hoping nobody takes the time to validate their claims.

Snip the truth, because it hurts.

Yeah, IT won't have a clue as to how to help with Linux.
<quote>
University IT generally works with Debian, and Ubuntu. UIT provides
local mirrors of these versions of Linux for local Stanford users.

...

Additional Stanford-specific Software Packages

University IT staff develop a variety of Stanford-specific software
packages for Linux systems. These include:

filter-syslog
remctl
wallet-client
...

Add the following to the file '/etc/apt/sources.list':
deb http://debian.stanford.edu/debian-stanford jessie main

Although everything so far including the web site and video evidence has
pointed to the contrary. There might be a few use cases, I'll grant you
that.

And all completely unsupported by internal IT support. You are on your own.

<quote>
Product Support

Debian and Ubuntu Linux

Online support may be found through the open source communities, or

And let's just read that bit again about the most mainstream Linux
server operating system....

<quote>
On June 1, 2015, University IT's agreement with Red Hat expired, and the
centrally managed Red Hat repository (aka Satellite or yum server) is no
longer available. View the official announcement for more information.

And let's also not forget that the main campus email is Office 365 and
Exchange server, not some half baked Linux solution.
