Why waste your time? It's obvious that this challenge was carefully
crafted to focus on Linux's weak points and at the same time showcase
OSX's strong points.
Who cares?
The same can be done for Linux vs OSX or Windows or z/OS or OS/400 or any
system.

And even if you take the time to script it out the antagonist will move
the goal post, focus on some minor point and keep the spider web growing
as the discussion finally ends up like a hydra where as soon as you cut
off one head by disproving one of his points, three other heads grow back
in it's place. It will become a never ending discussion until the point
where you decide to ignore his idiocy and tricks at which point he will
probably claim you lost the challenge.

Unless your goal is to have some fun lighting him up and watching him
squeal like a stuck pig I don't see anything positive coming from it.

By the way, what is this obsession with recopies? Is this guy a cook,
chef or something similar?

Why would Owl do that? It was his task... not mine.

Why not show some tasks... you can make your point. I certainly am not going
to say OS X is the best at all things! We can learn about the pros and cons
of different systems and learn how different people approach problems. Would
be a great way to learn and advocate.

Owl did some of that by changing it to work with local files... but overall
the task comparison went well!

I admit I never quite got the purpose of Owl's task... but whatever. It was
good to see how different systems were used and different people think
through a problem. I have no complaints with him picking a task I thought
was a bit odd.

I was referring to his original "challenge" and he realizes that which is
why he snipped all the content and made a dishonest reply.

The original challenge was Owl's. Without digging up the original post, he
set up the challenge to get all recipes from the home page of the website
and convert them to PDFs. I merely accepted that "task" or challenge or
whatever.

So when you speak of the person making the challenge and their focus on
recipes or whatever, it is Owl you are talking about. But I have no problem
with the task... it was completely fair in my view. Did not mean I or anyone
else had to take him up on it... just as I did not look much into the recent
"coding challenge" that came around. It was good to see but I had little to
add to the thread.

Bullshit. It was *you* with the recipe/pdf thing. I just expanded on
it. You were so impressed with your ability to click on a link to a
recipe and have your print manager generate a pdf from it. It was

I did not see the original contest but I have seen snit posting numerous
recipe manipulation challenges so I assumed he is the one who made the
initial request to duplicate what he was able to accomplish with his
precious Apple boxen.

I would be interested in seeing that because if I spoke incorrectly I
will of course gladly retract my comments.

I tried searching in Google but quite frankly this guy snit has thousands
of posts and the thread subjects keep changing so it's impossible to
follow.
I defer to someone who was directly involved to present the data.

Would love to see if the "advocates" are capable of speaking about
technology. Elsewhere I noted, about choice, that my view is desktop Linux
offers little of it: you have a bunch of distros all tied to the same
ecosystem that offers very little choice. I can show workflows and products
which demonstrate this:
...
On Linux the way I think most would do it is save the file as PDF to their
recipes folder, then dig down to it and open it (or save and open it on
their desktop and move it to their recipes folder later), then edit it, then
save it, then attach it to an email.

Really comes down to I challenged the "advocates" to see if their tool with
so much "choice" could do a few tasks I find easy to do elsewhere.
And they ran off screaming and leaving insults in their wake.
The only even close attempt has been from Owl who has to make system wide
scripts tied to system wide hot keys to even attempt to look like he can do
these things in a streamlined way.

So the guy is a liar. I suspected as much and while initially I thought
that recently posted list of his nefarious behavior was a bit over the
top I can see that it's probably spot on.

Yeah, he's pulled this lying routine on me several times. Looks like
it's time for another dose of "Go to your room, young man." He's just

+1
Judging by that list someone else posted regarding snit's behavior, we
are not the only ones who find him irritating.

No, Owl is talking about my task:

* From a single online recipe (or art project, lesson plan, whatever) save
it and email a PDF version where you add notes to it. Now I know this can be
done on Linux; save, open, edit, email. Just curious to see how you people
would generally do it and how streamlined the workflow would be. A couple
ways I might: <https://youtu.be/NPM_WldEBs0>.

Based on that he made his own task... the one being referenced:

* Download as PDFs all the recipes from the homepage of allrecipes.com (Owl
is the one who suggested this). I did several versions... here is one:
<https://youtu.be/_J4PppWroWY>. Mine not only worked, but the PDF had
selectable text and allowed me to do quick searches on ingredients and the
like... something Owl was never able to do on Linux. Worked so well that he
and Peter Köhlmann insisted it must have been faked.

I have been posting that exact text for some time. Not sure why Owl would
suddenly try to disagree now. His task was based on greater scripting and he
thought I would find it harder - he (and Peter) even accused me of cheating
when I did it so quickly and well.

Right... my task was about a single file. Yours was about automating a large
number (all on the home page of allrecipes.com):

* From a single online recipe (or art project, lesson plan, whatever) save
it and email a PDF version where you add notes to it. Now I know this can be
done on Linux; save, open, edit, email. Just curious to see how you people

I don't know what is wrong with snit's brain but from what I am seeing he
reads the same posts everyone else reads but he somehow manages to
interpret them completely different from everyone else.
It's kind of weird.

Why do they call you Meat? Is it because you are so big?
Yep. You catch em and I'll stretch em.
My college nickname was "The Stretch-Her"

So why don't you quote me saying it, Snit?

And while you're at it, who said this *after* my statement that you got confused over... and I clarified it for you:

"While I may not fully agree with you in your above statements, I do believe we share similar ideas about the rights of all people - gay, straight, black, white, green, blue, or plaid."

Gee, it's the same guy who wrote this:

"Once someone clarifies their views it should be accepted"

LOL!

I see I forgot the link... of course you'll want "proof" that, like I said above, even *after* you started your initial 'Steve is a bigot' BS, you then stated that you "believe we share similar ideas about the rights of all people - gay, straight, black, white, green, blue, or plaid".

This is about 15 times you've asked for this particular piece of egg on your face now, isn't it?

Yeah, I think that's about right ;)

Soon Snit will be claiming I "fooled" him into saying he believes "we share similar ideas about the rights of all people - gay, straight, black, white, green, blue, or plaid".

Wait for it. We have danced this dance before.

I'm told that one of the newsgroups he frequents (or used to frequent)
was one for mental health. He may actually have real, serious issues. I
would hope he wasn't there to give advice.
