It has 5 GBe ports, Quad core Celeron, 4 GB of RAM 64 GiB SSD and runs pfSense consuming only 7.5 watts, so it is fanless.. The box I made cost less than $300 from parts I bought at NetGate. It uses an AMD low power CPU and also runs pfSense, but on a 30 GiB SSD. It's very small. Smaller than a basic LinkSys router and about as light weight. No fan. Has console port and all that you'd expect for an infrastructure like device. That's my firewall. In the 90s I used to run a qaud ethernet card in a Sun IPX box and use a firewall application on top. It was much more expensive. Open Source has made building such things much less expensive and very robust. This box replaced my Cisco ASA5505 which cost me around $1,000 and had limited licenses to connect via VPN. The pfSense being open is unlimited. The Cisco had an annual contract cost for support and updates. No contract, no updates. pfSense again is open. The updates are open and cost me nothing. It's even easier to use and have even more features. The average joe doesn't have to build such as I did. Ties into what I said in my "short" take on Linux / OSS:

OK first, Linux: it is excellent. It is an amazing piece of work
with contributors from all over the place - from individuals to
small companies to multi-billion dollar conglomerates. It even
includes code from Microsoft - code Microsoft added and has been
accepted. But Linux is not, overall, Microsoft code, it is open
source code. And it works amazingly well. It has earned its place
in the server room, in embedded devices, and even in portable
computing devices. It does not, however, do this alone - it really
only has value when tied to other code, and mostly that code is
open source (though not 100%).
So this extends the conversation to open source in general. And
the same that I said for Linux holds true here - it is, in
general, amazing. Sure, some open source projects are better than
others, but the amount of code that exists in open source format
is amazing and the fact that it can be had for free and altered
for free is excellent. It is, perhaps, one of the greatest
examples of people from so many walks of life coming together to
make tools which anyone can use. It is, in many ways, similar to
the sharing done in science. Its value is hard to over estimate.
The whole concept of open source software and the people and
companies who contribute to it have done the world as a whole an
amazing service.
Linux and OSS have earned a place on servers and embedded devices
and more. They have earned respect. OSS is something that anyone
who considers themselves technologically knowledgeable should have
knowledge of - it is simply something that cannot be ignored if
you wish to call yourself technologically competent.

I thought in that post I specifically noted how desktop Linux is "world
changing" - but I do not see that phrase there now. Still, I have often used
that phrase to describe not just Linux but desktop Linux specifically.
Yes: I speak of the downsides. Yes: I am sincere with that AND also sincere
with my desire to see people show examples where I might be wrong. But I
also speak of the benefits and the places where it is an amazing
accomplishment.
