all except for Creepy Chris Ahlstrom; he has "principles"/

"I wouldn't work for Microsoft for a billion dollars" - the high and
mighty Chris Ahlstrom, who will develop on and for Windows for 25 years
for a tiny fraction of $1 billion.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Microshit is in the business of making crutches -- nay wheelchairs --
for brain-dead and intellectually comatose computer users.

It's not a matter of principle; it's a matter of stomach.

Well, that's part of it, too. :-)

No need to laugh so much, by the way. It's obvious troll-sign.

Debian Hint #13: If you don't like the default options used in a Debian
package, you can download the source and build a version which uses the
options you prefer. See http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-pkg_basics.html
(sections 6.13 and 6.14) for more information.

However, bear in mind that most options in most packages can be configured
at runtime, and do not require recompiling the package.

The joke is on you Chris Ahlstrom.

Your desire to support anything pro-Linux, no matter how ludicrous and
false has labeled you as a complete asshole, right alongside the
resident janitor William Poaster.

Have you no shame?

Microshaft is in the business of catering to non-techies.

A job techies suck at.

There is still untold fortunes to be made by techies catering
to non-techies by giving them more choices, monitoring which
things work and then including those things as standard choices
in every distro.

I like my desktop to be translucent cube.
I want one button to do this:

(This is what I need to do in Ubuntu 14.04)

Right click desktop > Change desktop background > Theme > Radiance
(otherwise the borders on windows will be dar in the next steps)
Also set the desktop timeout to avoid PC screen lock every 5 minutes
If have internet then easier to set up firefox to log into this web
page for all the commands and guidance
    sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
    reboot
Log back in under with gnome-compiz - click on the small round icon
above the login box to select the gnome-compiz window manager
    sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-plugins-extra
The following commands are very risky - please wait and react slowly
NOTE after clicking, the software updates the settings - but there
is a lag. Clicking during the update lag could cause compiz to crash and to
completely wipe all the good settings
Set General Options > Desktop Size > Horizontal Virtual screen size 7 or
more (high definition screens with low graphics RAM cannot have more than
couple of windows)
    Click on the Back button
    Disable the Desktop Wall
    Enable Desktop Cube
Desktop Cube > Transparent Cube > Opacity during rotation 27%
Desktop Cube > Transparent Cube > Non rotating opacity 33%
Desktop Cube > Appearance > Skydome > Skydome - set check mark
Desktop Cube > Appearance > Skydome > skydome gradient start colour
yellow #FEFFC7
Desktop Cube > Appearance > Skydome > skydome gradient end colour
blue #0DB1FD
    Enable Rotate Cube
    Enable Wobbly Windows effect
At this point the software may crash - reboot PC and log back in -
if it has worked then the transparent cube should be showing
    Enable window decoration
    Enable Animation
    Enable Fading Windows
    Enable Move window
    Enable Resize window
    Enable Grid
    Enable place windows
    Enable Scale
    Enable Viewport Switcher
Viewport Switcher > Desktop-based Viewport Switching
        move left = Button 4
        move right = Button 5

If the screen hasn't changed to translucent, reboot PC.

Absolutely, unequivocally, and indisputable true!

But the Microshit business model has not been without
serious consequences. Computer viruses, malware, and
digital eavesdropping (spying) are ALL the result of
the junk software that Microshit has foisted on the world.

And since most of the world is non-techies, MS owns it.

No doubt. I was looking into using Grub to boot multiple distros +
Windows. It's way, way more hassle than it should be.

Contrast it with EasyBCD.

Clearly, it was developed in a "pervasive culture of quality and design,
thoughtful usability and great technology".

Principles? It has nothing to do with that. It has to do with what kind of
place Microsoft is to work at. I work in a pleasant environment with a lot
fewer assholes than you'll find a most places.

And what's that "Creepy" nonsense? What's "Creepy" is calling me "Creepy"
in part because... get this... I drive a Fiesta, a fairly racy version of
that model line that was pretty popular in Europe.

What a k00k!

> "I wouldn't work for Microsoft for a billion dollars" - the high and

Idiot. Windows is incidental, as I've said before. What's substantive is
the *language*, which I write using standard calls, eschewing most
platform-specific calls.

Oh how it must eat at the so-called heart of DFS, that someone can enjoy
Linux so much, spend so much time in it, and yet write code that deploys on
both systems.

By the way, would *you* (the audience) work for a billion dollars, knowing
what a yoke that would put on your shoulders? Knowing that "the love of
money is the root of all evil"?

No thanks. My life is happy. I get to use Linux all day. I can go home
and enjoy life. I can go home and write Free software.

Fact is, you wouldn't work for MS for any wage because you can't handle
the pressure and competition and the skillbase required to stay in such
a demanding environment.

It's a tiny car for college-freshman girls.

Riggghhht...

Incidentally, you've been developing for Windows for 20+ years straight.

"most"

You know and I know and everyone knows every line of code you deploy for
Windows helps MS maintain their dominance. At night you come to cola to
whine and lie about them.

> Oh how it must eat at the so-called heart of DFS, that someone can enjoy

You don't enjoy Linux enough to get a job doing it full-time, so what
are you blabbing about?

> By the way, would *you* (the audience) work for a billion dollars, knowing

Fuck yeah I would. I'd work myself to the bone every day for that kind
of money... because I could take care of every family member and friend
I have, forever and beyond.

> No thanks. My life is happy. I get to use Linux all day. I can go home

I can only imagine how bad your hobby code is, given that they won't let
you write production code at the office:

"And, frankly, the majority of the work our group does is requirements,
design and testing, not coding. The coding is a small treat, with
desirable (to the coders) features not getting done because of time
pressure. So those off-hours coding are when I get to do things the
Right Way -- my way!"

"Pressure." "Competition." "Demanding."

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

It's more like sitting through boring meetings until 9:30pm
listening to some incompetent idiot suggest what "canned"
package can be dropped into the code base, while no one
else wants to challenge for fear of revealing his own
disgusting incompetence.

But have no fear. When the final "product" gets shipped
no one will notice the inexcusably shoddy workmanship because
of the overlying dazzle and glitz. It's amazing what a shiny
coat of paint can cover up.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! THAT'S your idealism reduced to reality.

Maybe somebody can tell me how Visual Studio 2013, a supposedly
great product from a great company, can be brought to its knees
by *hovering over a variable in the debugger*. And no, they
won't patch it in that version. You have to buy a new version
to get that fix.

And why does a Tomcat container get to its up-and-running state
*twice as fast* in Linux as in Windows?

I think the first user of both Visual Studio Pro and Xcode would be
surprised at how much gets loaded with it. Though it's been around three
years since I installed it I'd be willing be $20 that the install is
larger than my entire Ubuntu live install.

Now as I think about it, I think I can install a full Ubuntu with dev
tools faster than one can install Visual Studio in its entirety.

It's been a while since i used xcode. Correct me if I am wrong, but I'm
pretty sure they didn't offer a delta upgrade either. So with each
update I would get this massive 1.1 GiB upgrade to deal with.

One of the things I really like about Linux is how simple it is to
starting writing code. Reminds me of the old days when right after
power up, you have basic right there. You know if Linux came with a
printed manual that would be cool to include. A small manual on C right
in getting started guide. Just like the old days.

Not to mention the SEVERAL HOURS wasted during installation
while Microshit goes through its who-knows-what routines.
That is correct. It requires SEVERAL HOURS to install
Visual Studio.

And if you ever want to UNINSTALL it, well just forget
about it.

Visual Studio is the most disorganized and chaotic pile
of files that exists on Microshit. I fucked up my entire
system attempting to get rid of it. It would be simpler
to just start again with a fresh install of MS Windows --
and that's exactly what I had to do.

Well in Windows 10 I think you can essentially roll back the clock now
to undo it.

In Red Hat everything you do with yum is a transaction. And you can pull
up the transaction log, get the transaction ID and just undo that
transaction. It will be as if it never happened. Again, proving to me
Linux is just so much better, easier to deal with.

The whole Visual Studio install is a good example of how bad the
experience can be installing software on Windows.

I can't tell you how many times I just used Google to find something on
Microsoft. I also personally feel like it says something about them as a
company. If they can't even clean their own house why would you want
them in yours? They have no concept of being organized.

It's pretty damn big.

You're full of it. It takes about an hour. Even if you uncheck
that <laughing> Windows Store crap, and the <OMG!> Office developer
bullshit. That's still too long though.

Then you have to find and install the latest big-ass patch.
Hope it fixes the bugs in VS.

You might also need to install additional versions of .NET
Framework.

Really, you're better off sequestering your Windows installs
in a virtual machine, keeping backups or snapshots before installing
each major package. Unless you like crossing your fingers and waiting
for a "restore point" to operate.

That is incorrect.

When posting your bullshit lies, it's best you specify exactly which
version and options you're choosing. Then someone can do it themselves
and prove you're a lying jagoff (which you are).

Start here:
https://www.visualstudio.com/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs

1. it took 1 minute to download and install Visual Studio Code. It
took 5 seconds to cleanly uninstall it.

2. it took 20 minutes to download and install 'Visual Studio Community
2015 with Updates' using the defaults.

start install : 7:53pm
finish install: 8:13pm
http://i.imgur.com/Ea0Zf7L.jpg

It took 17 minutes to uninstall. No issues whatsoever.

start removal : 9:16pm
finish removal: 9:33pm
http://i.imgur.com/FPguJOZ.jpg

I didn't try to install the Enterprise Trial version, but I'm sure it
will work as well as the others.

> And if you ever want to UNINSTALL it, well just forget

I just did 2 clean, perfect installs and uninstalls of Visual Studio
products. Just a few mouse clicks. Not a single error or hesitation.
Flawless.

That Fabian Russell incompetence rears its head again.

If you're feeling nostalgic for the days of old-timey basic tinkering:

# apt-get install sdlbasic

 ...and have fun. :)
