SteamOS, a Linux distro build specifically for gaming and nothing else, still loses to Windows 10 - a general purpose OS.

So systems in the early stages of development have performance issues?
Shocking.

Oops, this was done the same month Steam Machines went on sale commercially.

Linux products get sold while they are still in the early stages of development? How unethical. No wonder they are a total commercial flop.

Windows 10. Champion over Linux gaming.

Except those weren't actually the machines being tested:

"To start our tests, we dragged out the dual-boot SteamOS/Windows
machine we first built nearly two years ago ... The hardware on that
bare bones machine is a little out of date now"

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/11/ars-benchmarks-show-significant-performance-hit-for-steamos-gaming/

Maybe you should try actually reading the articles you're commenting on,
before attempting to use them as the basis for your propaganda.

> Linux products get sold while they are still in the early stages of development? How unethical.

The "early access" business model is now very common, as I'm sure
Microsoft would agree, given that this is exactly what it's done with
Windows 10. Whether or not it qualifies as "ethical" depends on your
priorities: early access to unstable, in-development products, or a long
wait for stable, finalised products.

At least early access to SteamOS is purely voluntary, whereas Microsoft
seems to be delivering Windows 10 like a virus to its unwilling and
unsuspecting victims.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/03/17/microsoft_windows_10_upgrade_gwx_vs_humanity

There's even an antivirus tool to remove it:

http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads

But should you decide to keep the Windows 10 virus, at the very least
you should probably remove Microsoft's spyware:

http://bgr.com/2015/08/14/windows-10-spying-prevention-privacy-tools

> Windows 10. Champion...

Of viruses and spyware, apparently.

Hilarious Linux bullshit. Steam Machines are a monumental flop, but try telling yourselves otherwise to help you sleep at night.

Windows 10, higher framerates and better performance than a Linux build made specifically for gaming. How embarassing for you Linux losers.

Linux gaming. Classic oxymoron.

You snipped, Hypocrite: "...and got all the operating systems and
drivers up to date."

Maybe YOU should try and quote the article before lying.

They tested 2 year old hardware with the latest software, which is
better than most people have.

And Linux lost.

2 year old hardware is pretty standard for a gaming PC nowadays. It isn't 2001 anymore. CPUs have only marginally improved since Sandy Bridge and GPUs are on 2 year old architectures right now anyway until Polaris and Pascal come out.

The point is that on the same exact hardware Windows 10 (A general purpose OS) achieved over 50% higher framerates than SteamOS (A Linux OS build SPECIFICALLY for gaming). That's just fucking tragic. After seeing those numbers is no mystery why Steam machines have been a commercial failure and why Linux gaming continues to be an oxymoron.

Linux gaming fails for one reason which is Linux users are too cheap
and too few to pay for the games.

Exactly. You even have their "leaders" like that disgusting lump of hair-flesh Richard Stallman telling them not to buy games on Linux because "muh free software".

You think top-tier game developers are going to spend $50-100 million developing a game for a platform where all of its 200 users expect to get everything for free?

Your little circle jerk doesn't alter the fact that you're all just
engaging in self-made fantasies.

Nope. The Humble Bundle disproved that quite some time ago.

Although this is ultimately up to the people that actual make stuff.

Humble Bundle. Where Linux gamers wait until they can get games for 50 cents before they will buy them.

That kind of shit isn't going to fund development, which is why most popular games have no Linux release.

   Steam machines are just PCs.

   They're just hardware.

Calling steam machines "alpha products" is just moronic.

The troll has missed his target due to incompetence unbecoming of an actual
