Windows 10: Microsoft's new browser is a FAILURE 

Microsoft tried to move users from its infamous Internet Explorer browser 
to a minimalist new web browser dubbed Edge following the launch of 
Windows 10.

But new data has revealed that Windows 10 users are reluctant to make the 
transition.

according to San Francisco-based firm Quantcast.

browser activity originating from Windows 10.

It is surprising that Microsoft has not managed to capture more users 
with its new browser.

Edge is the default browser that ships with Windows 10 – and is even

options during the installation, the operating system will swap any rival 
browsers you'd set as the default on Windows 7 or 8.1 to Microsoft Edge.

The lacklustre performance could be due to the browser's unfinished

I was using the Chrome browser on W10 but have since moved back to IE.

That last statement is a bit mild.  'could be' isn't even close to it!  
It is missing plugins and extensions which make it a non-starter for me.  
It is fast though.

The boot up speeds are weird too.  Sometimes it boots or comes out of 
hibernate/sleep very quickly with all the open apps there just fine.  
Then other times it is laggy as hell and oft times the open apps are 
there with a blank screen.  And when it does that, the only thing that 
really works is to restart.  Irritating!!

Wifi issues have been a problem for quite some time.  While W8/8.1 was 
much better about it, the wifi issues plague W10, even just losing it 
while actually in use.  And I don't mean just losing connection, it loses 
the whole damned device until you restart.

Everything seems to work well and fast with it, but it is a plain browser  
that is what it is and doesn't allow for extensions or plugins at this 
time.  It isn't horrible and it is fully functional, but you can't change 
much about its operation.

I don't use it much at all but I do keep it as my 'default' browser.  It 
is very fast and if I click on a link somewhere outside of a browser Edge 
is the quickest way to get to the site.

It's actually a pretty good browser for people who don't use extensions
at all. However, it is terrible if you choose not to use Flash (for good
reasons).

I use it whenever a site I want to use requires Flash. By default, the
plug-in isn't installed in my browser of choice.

Exactly. And if Edge is hampered by the lack of extensions, why did 
Microsoft "rush it to market" before it was finished? Just Microsoft 
turning their users in beta testers for their hobbyware again. What else 
is new?

Because Internet Explorer is a mess and just about anything is better
than using it. Microsoft can't provide Opera, Firefox or Chrome out of
the box (if it intends to keep its market share) so they created a
replacement which, as it turns out, is good enough for most people.
