What percentage would be fair? Whatever the percentage, the very
fact that there should be a quota at all is ridiculous. Compete
on quality of work, not membership in some "oppressed" group.

Exactly. Isn't it the heigth of patronising sexism to give a woman the job
simply because she's a woman? Shouldn't she WANT to earn it on merit?

One issue with women programmers is that their male counterparts
of often childish, demeaning, and intimidating, pushing them out for reasons
unrelated to competence.

Mot a big fan of quotas. My preference is to build a collegial team.

And you know this ... how? I guess I've always been in a different situation
than you. Where I've worked, if women knew their stuff they commanded
respect just like the men.

Of course that was a few years back before becoming a "victim" became a
career path.

Depends on management. I've worked with a few guys who were assholes, but
management kept them under control... except for one asshole who was
actively belligerent and belittling, and way too big for his britches (he
thought way too much of himself). Management got him to tone down the
yelling, but still let him do whatever he wanted, including dismissing the
need for testing and source-code control. Worse than dealing with Rainman.

But I'm guessing this guy was an asshole to the men as well as to the women.
I think one of the biggest problems we have in modern companies and
corporations is gutless managers. I used to get so sick of being called into
a meeting because one person (not me) would continually do something wrong
and, instead of calling that person out and bringing him/her into his
office, the gutless wonder manager would call a meeting to discuss "issues."
That's not the way you manage. If someone is not doing their job, call them
into your office, ask them what their major malfunction is and tell them to
straighten out or find other work. Simple. Direct. Doesn't waste the time of
every other employee who IS dong their job. It also "clears the air." A lot
of times that employee WILL straighten out after one of these one-on-one
meetings.

Nah, this was a solo thing, basically a one-man "team" who resented
someone else with knowledge intruding on his bailiwick.

He didn't deal out his nastiness based on gender... he would get testy
with anyone who suggested that he fix an issue or, heaven forbid, make his
code more robust. For example, rather than provide a library with an
input-sanitizing module, he would haughtily instruct (along with his
"manager") user's to avoid "special character". Ye gods! Asshole.

Yeah, but some people, for whatever stupid reason, have the "manager"
wrapped around their finger.

Other than Ronb, who fails to understand what Klaus Schadenfreude is doing? What do you get out of lying, Ronb? What does it take to end this?

Too much glue for you, gluehead. Lying sack of shit AKA Ronb does it every time. Then the deluge begins. Because the mama's boy just has to run to other groups to get the attention he's not getting here. Translation of Ronb speak: His unbelievable "troubleshooting prowess" side tracked him from an add-on he wants that can be quickly Googled for this application. The only thing broken here is Ronb. Ronb would have to be suffering from mental illness to be unsure of if he "once had" designed a program with Klaus Schadenfreude. Sound like anyone in here? When a guy can't keep his lies straight and makes use of fictional, self-esteem protecting bunk later, it's acutely obvious what his trolling is. Ronb suffers from waking drug trips so, to him, everything, even responses to his idiocy, are "aggressive". Who does not know this?

What do you get out of lying, John Gohde? The Mack has better media tools. John Gohde will never live that down. John Gohde wants to punish everyone here: If John Gohde can't get attention here then nobody will.

How John Gohde figures out when to use the absurd flood script to best emulate the style of Klaus Schadenfreude's posts http://usenet.sandman.net/misc/snit_flood.

After kill filtering all the socks from John Gohde, it is principally just two flooders producing 95% of the onslaught. It is blatant. And both entirely obsessive nut cases. John Gohde failed to give an example of a large corporation that has acquired its fortune by not giving a damn about its clients or wares. Can you get less dishonest?

Don't get too bigheaded, John Gohde, sometimes "your socks" are just that.

I agree, and find it difficult to believe that there is significant
discrimination, in the FOSS world. It ain't no country club.

One has to use the tactics of the Left against the Left.

The Left claims that gender identity is completely up to
the individual. That is, if a man/woman believes that he/she
is a woman/man then that person actually *is* a woman/man.

Therefore, half of the male Linux developers just have to declare
that they are female and POOF! the problem is solved.

As stupid as the suggestion is, it's right up the social justice clowns'
alley. No need to chop off your toy, boys, just tell 'em you identify as
a lady.

The suggestion that there should be a quota of 50% female code is so
ridiculous that you just want to bash someone's head with a mallet for
introducing it. If they are better, use their code; if they're not,
delete it.

I fully expect that it's a matter of time though. Once the LGBT gets its
paws on something, full-scale destruction is always the next step.
