#383207 — Some problems with mouse and BSD's

TrueOS has problem with mouse wheel as up scrolling executes both in
firefox and thunderbird additional commands. Haven't found solution.
Tried DragonflyBSD in KVM and mouse wheel does not scroll when focus is
in machine Window. When out of focus scroll works. Tried to fiddle a
bit with xorg.conf to no effect.
I use KVM because in that way I can set higher resolutions in
DragonflyBSD as there is no virtualbox guest additions for it.
Can somebody help?

There is a freeBSD usenet group. Not sure if they are aware of matters
in TrueOS, but give that a shot. I've not tried it in a KVM myself.

freeBSD usenet groups are just forwards from mailing lists,
unfortunately. DragonFly install is pure masochism, though ;)
But anyway it runs GUI same as others once installed and configured ;)
I will look into solution with mouse wheel, I won't give up on BSD ;)

Well, I only mentioned FreeBSD because as you can see it does provide
UNIX. Ultimately I like UNIX. If I couldn't get a UNIX like experience
from Linux, I'd get it from FreeBSD or Solaris. I started on Solaris and
that was my primary OS in 1999. I didn't drop Solaris because I hated
it. My job simply took me in another direction and I didn't keep up with
it is all. But I liked Solaris just fine. And I like FreeBSD just fine.
I just like Linux more. I've now been on Linux for three years and four
months and there is a level of comfort on it. 

If you ever decide you don't like the direction Linux is taking, know
that there is this alternative. So I tend to stress less over Linux as a
result.

Well, I had Solaris job in 1999. Also this company used to port to
Solaris in beginning, but we were not satisfied with performance in
comparison to LinTel servers, so we ultimately dropped support for
Solaris.

TrueOS can bring FreeBSD to the masses. Installation process is *very*
easy. It's just that Linux is supported by commercial companies and
FreeBSD is not. Same situation as Win->Linux->->FreeBSD.

Linux is true desktop OS now. Very polished, I might add. It's just
that it dominates on servers, in comparison to FreeBSD and others.
Perhaps people don't bother with BSD's so much?

Well, I guess it just depends on your circle of friends. I use FreeBSD
on my FreeNAS and my pfSense. Though I building up my little Dell T130,
if Dell would ever deliver my parts. I bought a T130 to begin working
with KVMs and really liked what I saw. So I went back and ordered a PERC
H730 and a couple 4 TB drives. I bought it with two 1 TB drives. The
idea now is to RAID 1 the two 1s and then RAID 1 the two 4 TBs. I'll
have multiple KVMs installed, but will keep just one running all the
time and up three more running simultaneously for learning. If that goes
well I bought buy another server, most likely a Dell T330 and use that
to self host. 

FreeBSD is my storage facility for now. I'll likely change that to XFS
on Linux. Nothing wrong with ZFS or anything. I just want to get very
familiar with XFS.

time in BSD but trust me: it's not worth the effort. Linux is faster in
