A great distro is Linux Mint: https://linuxmint.com/download.php You can download it, write it to a USB stick, and boot the stick to try it out. If you like it, you can install it on your internal storage. It even has a tool to shrink your Windows partition to make room for Linux. OR -- since Linux is now part of Windows, you can just use the so-called "Windows Subsystem for Linux", and run Linux on Windows! https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linux/install Good luck, and happy Linuxing. -- -v System76 Thelio Mega v1.1 x86_64 NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti OS: Linux 6.14.2 Release: Mint 22.1 Mem: 258G "I'm no stranger, just a friend you haven't met..."

I doubt you'll see a Linux computer at Best Buy, if that's what you mean, but I seldom go there and am not looking for a computer when I do. Panasonic certified their Toughbooks with RedHat and you probably can find a SKU with Linux. Good luck with that. Navigating their site is something else. I found that out when a site asked if they could use Toughbooks. 'Which freaking Toughbook? Panasonic calls almost everything a Toughbook.'

Nevertheless, with Linux, I will be able to go quite a while on my other machine without having to buy another. I'm sure that it will eventually not be good enough to play the latest 3D games, but I'm a humongous fan of 2D platformers anyway. -- God be with you, CrudeSausage LibreOffice supporter John 14:6

I upgraded the processor and added a SSD when I switched from SUSE to Fedora but there was nothing wrong with the original components. My work laptop and desktops are all Dell and have also been trouble free. It took the company a while to realize that building desktops in the back room really wasn't cost effective after replacing enough Brand X power supplies, hard drives, and mother boards.

I think you can still find some (a small subset) of Dell laptops that come pre-loaded with Linux. (And maybe a couple HPs.) Not much choice out there for those who don't want to install Linux on their own. -- “Evil is not able to create anything new, it can only distort and destroy what has been invented or made by the forces of good.” —J.R.R.
