No doubt, Peter, they are just the ones I thought of "off the top of my
head".

They are fine enough for at least 90% of the tasks where you would need
screencasting software. In the past I have used both RecordMyDesktop and
Istanbul. Since some years I mostly run "RecordItNow" for the occasional
need to do screencasting. I prefer its simplicity while at the same time it
provides nearly everything I would need. I actually don't like software
which tries to be everything when you can get the same result with the
combination of simple tools. There is screencasting software which can do
more then "RecordItNow" but for that one case in hundreds of years where it
would not be "good enough" they can make that software better, until I think
that its advantages outweight the disadvantages

Maybe the tasks you need - but not me! But even if they were, that does not
change the fact that your past claims on the topic have been flat out wrong:

---------------------------------------------------------------

  Snit:
    -----
Excellent screencasting software, similar to ScreenFlow. And
example of something I find key to its use:
<http://youtu.be/To4v70huwAU>. What OSS tool on desktop Linux
    has anything even close?
    -----
  Peter Köhlmann:
    -----
There are several more. Look up "Istanbul" for example or
"Byzanz", or "Cankiri" The list can grow quite a bit, but
these are the most used ones
    -----
No program Peter pointed to does the task shown in the video. Peter
never found *any* way on desktop Linux.

As you have been told, though, there is no combination of tools you can use
where you record with one tool and it passes on information about window
placement, keystrokes, mouse clicks, mouse movement, etc. so you can show or
hide these things as you wish in your video editor.

You, of course, claim to have secret Voldermort software that does just
this! The problem, however, is none of the screen recorders for Linux export
with any format that has these features. None I can find nor none you can
name.

And then there is the problem that done of the video editors have tools to
work with this information even it was exported.

Meaning you are simply wrong. Again.

You know nothing of screencasting. Fine. I am not going to claim you do.

Simple Screen Recorder is also great. It's in the Ubuntu repositories
now, so probably also on other distro's as well.

Just my two cents.

Correction: it's not in the default Ubuntu repositories, it's available
as a PPA.

There are screen recorders for Linux, but I do not think anyone has denied
this or even questioned it.

There are many decent screen recorders for Linux. I do not think anyone has
suggested otherwise.

Of those, RecordMyDesktop seems to be the only one with good reviews.
However, it indeed seems that there are tools for the job.

Those are screen recorders. Sure. Nobody has suggested otherwise or that
Linux does not offer a fair number of such programs.
