And the fat fuck calls me a troll even though he is wholly unable to
provide posts with anything more than a high-five to the fellow idiots
populating this group like Peter the Klöwn and cumstainv. I've just
recently had to Peter the Klöwn and his midget henchman Wideload about
the inconsistency in openSUSE. They claim that the operating system
plays MP3s out of the box whereas even the latest documentation for it
says that it doesn't. If it does, it has finally caught up to Windows ME
which provided the functionality in the year 1999. If it doesn't, it is
still lacking but at least enforces the laws of the United States where
most of its users will likely live. So it is either grossly incapable or
horribly inconsistent just like I have always claimed.

I remember that out of desperate, at some point in 1994 or 1995, IBM
started selling OS/2 for $40. I didn't buy it but only because I was a
broke teenager but otherwise I think I would have bought it to keep it
as a souvenir from when IBM was still relevant.

I think that even if they gave OS/2 away for free it would at best be a very 
small niche player in the OS market. Nothing against OS/2, it's simply a 
matter of being too little, too late.

Given away for free in the 90s, it might have captured quite a bit of
the market. However, Windows 3.1 was technically free too (just about
everyone had an illegal copy of it lying around somewhere and builders
installed it without issue on every PC that they sold). At the end of
the day, between Windows 3.1 which had a shitload of applications
written for it and OS/2 which had virtually none or terrible ports of
those same Windows apps, I imagine that most people would have chosen
Windows 3.1 if given the choice.

IBM don't care.  Really.  They were nice to license the source to AN 
but IBM will carry on with its other ventures and not pay any attention 
to OS/2.

OMG! The forgotten alternative to Windoze, it used to supersede WindozeNT in the back days ....  AFAIK it's kernel had been somehow derived from the old FAST DOS written in assembly.  So no stealing another *nix or VMS and no buggy high level language programming?  Can they really make it??

Don't forget, all these pseudo OSes were originally designed for single computer without any networking.  Linux and other *nixes have been designed with networking in mind from the day 0, hence it's internal part of their kernels with all the performance and stability benefits...  No winsocks, no bullshit....

That's fine, but while its networking is stellar, Linux doesn't do very
well in every other area.
