Linux is usually the system where Open Source software is tested first. So 
if a piece of software will work anyway, it will likely work on Linux.

Debian has a reputation for having things “work right”. It is considered 
industrial-strength, with stability so rock-solid as to be downright 
boring. Lots of businesses entrust mission-critical revenue-generating 
operations to it.
