cellular, wifi, gps and bluetooth can be used for location services,
but which ones in any given instance may vary (and makes no difference
to the user).

the phone knows better than you do which one to use.

I don't see anything there that I need to keep BT on all the time for (on
multiple devices, at that), and I don't even use a BT headset or kb (other
than trying out a time or two & keeping around in case I want to change my
ways).

I turn on BT on my phone when I'm using my Pebble or a rare picture-drop
with kinfolk, but that's about it.

Only *if* I'm using the Pebble, which isn't all the time or even every day.
And not on every device I own.

I don't understand your insistence on "BT must be kept on no matter what".

I haven't complained about anything breaking, I've said that BT isn't
something I need turned on on all my devices all the time, yet you insist I
must be missing "something".

you have a pebble but don't wear it??

because so much stuff uses it.

apparently you do very little with your devices.

I do plenty with my devices, just not stuff that needs BT -- other than the
aforementioned Pebble, which I don't need every day so I don't wear it all
the time, or a rare tryout of something. I airdropped some pictures maybe
twice last year! w/people I don't even often see so it's usually done by
email anyway.

No one gives a single fuck about how you use your ipad. *I* care about
you telling other people that turning on BT is a security risk, because
that is a lie.

So who in this thread are you accusing of being a liar, since I never

Or perhaps you're hallucinating too.

Do you know all the things BT is used FOR? Are you sure it's not being
used? Around here it's being used all the time.

I suppose if you live with no other modern devices and just an iPhone
and you never go anywhere... Maybe. But that seems a rather extreme
edge-case.

Yes, and yes.

Then you should leave yours turned on all the time.

Since this is an iPad newsgroup, your mention of an iPhone is puzzling.

The only place I'd have any use for BlueTooth would be in my car, and I
use my phone there, not my iPad.

Somehow I doubt you have an exhaustive list of all of the
Bluetooth-enabled features in iOS.

Most people do leave it turned on and don't regret it.

The Bluetooth features of iOS don't matter to me if I have on external
devices which use it.

the point you're missing is it doesn't need an actual device to connect
to.

bluetooth has come a long way since bluetooth classic.

> It's really entertaining how you guys are so damned anxious to second

it's really entertaining how you think you know every possible way in
which bluetooth can be used.

but if you want it off, turn it off. nobody is stopping you. just don't
bitch when things don't work properly. don't expect battery life to
change either. it won't.

Apple enable Blue-tooth on both the Iphone and the Ipad the is so that
they can communicate and exchange information common to each device.
Your comment about this being an Ipad group as if it should exclude
Iphones is mistaken. The two IOS devices are so intimately interlinked
that having Blue-tooth enabled is crucial for full functionality. Others
will be able to tell you in more detail what the pros and cons of
enabling it are. Despite the merchants of doom there is little risk of
a genuine security issue in a domestic environment.

All I did was explain why it was used. I made no mention of it being
applicable to you. Try being less curmudgeonly when people are trying to
be helpful. The thread is not for your exclusive benefit.
