The secret lies in using Chrome not Safari. for example if i do a Google search for my doctor, Scott Greaves. Chrome will execute the Google search and give me his office location tag in its little map-let. If I tap that tag, the google Maps app will open and open showing me the location. I can the save it as a "Saved Place" (not a bookmark). I can share the location via message or email, and I can plot a route from my current position. -- Regards, Savageduck

I've never seen it. There are a lot of apps that will open a link in Chrome instead of Safari (Tweetbot and Twitterrific both, as I recall) and Tweetbot will open links in 1Password's browser as well, which is rather brilliant. But I've not seen that with maps outside of google's own apps where the feature does not seem to work. (I told chrome to open a map in Google Maps and got google Maps, but at it's default screen with no information from Chrome). -- Support bacteria - they're the only culture some people have.

They were required to provide installation for rival browsers. Apple has never refused installation of other map programs. It would be sensible to allow users to choose their default maps program just as they can choose a default browser in OSX, but refusing it is not an exclusionary act like preventing even installation. "Oh noes, I heard something about some app I've never used. How do I avoid it since I never ever want to figure out a single thing for myself." There's nothing at all wrong with Apple Maps that isn't also wrong with every other maps software out there. For example, I just saw a screenshot of someone driving down a dual carriageway in the UK and the google-maps on their in-car GPS showed them as being off-road in a heavily wooded area. -- LOOSE TEETH DON'T NEED MY HELP Bart chalkboard Ep. I said I'd be exploring Apple Maps for accuracy on bookmarks I've saved on my neolithic iPad. There are many I've manually adjusted. Googlemaps often needs adjustment. The question is going to be whether Applemaps can get as close to locations I can double check with a close-up. -- Erilar, biblioholic medievalist with iPad
