Any reply to the troll is the entire SUBthread. There are other posts in
the thread which remain intact, but they are not part of the SUBthread
the troll started.

AAA good post
  BBB troll post
    B-reply
      C-repl
    BB-reply
  CCC- good post
    CC-reply
  DDD good post.

I kill the BBB subthread. I get this:

AAA good post
  CCC- good post
    CC-reply
  DDD good post.

The 'problem' with that is that 'C-reply' might contain noteworthy
content and even 'B-reply' might. You can't automate that without some
real AI.

So it's basically a balance of noise/annoyance versus content.

FWIW, my newsreader (tin) cannot kill responses to killfiled posters
(unless they have a unique 'tag' in their MID (message-id)), so for me
this is a non-issue as I will see the sub-thread.

Yes, that is true.

Thus I only activate this filter with very obnoxious people.

Using Thunderbird, when th filter deletes troll replies, it breaks the
thread, so that any replies to that post shows up as a new Re:thread.
Is there a way to prevent that so replies at least stay in the same thread?

I find it hilarious that "Bob F." talks about "trolls", given he is it:

I don't think so.

If this were a big problem I'd go back and look for the method of
downloading messages, not just headers, then parsing the messages and
deleting ones that were follow-ups to the trolls. That wasn't practical
back in the days of slow internet connections and smaller disk drives,
but it's not impractical anymore.

But it's not really a big problem because so few people respond to the
trolls, they either have them filtered out completely, or they ignore
them. If someone constantly responds to them then they can just be
filtered out as well. Or in some cases the trolls have destroyed a
Usenet newsgroup so completely that they are the only ones left.

Most of the responses to the trolls' posts are just complaints about
them trolling, it would be great if people could resist responding like
that.

I just hope that Donald Trump doesn't show up on Usenet now that he's
been banned from Twitter and Facebook. I heard that he's looking into
Yik Yak, and Google+.

You are right: Thunderbird downloads all posts (or all headers, depends)
and then decides which to hide out. It can still build the thread, it
has all the data.

If the thread is broken and there is that suspicion, you only have to
unhide (view menu) to see them all and try see the reason.

I wouldn't mind that. It's in the spirit of usenet -- uncensored and
self-moderated. We still need that even if we don't use it.

> been banned from Twitter and Facebook. I heard that he's looking into

:-)

I have to wonder why his staff couldn't convince him to just STOP THE
GODDAM STUPID TWEETING. Surely they must have known it was, at the very
least, counter-productive. Disruption of the status quo is good, but
not when you just have clowns flinging crap out into the audience.

It's just SO hard to get good help.

The action of the filter must not be "delete" it has to be "ignore
subthread". In this case the threads stay intact.

In this case it is even possible to read the ignored posts. They are
simply as the action says "ignored" (=hidden).

Cut the bullshit Steve Scharf.
o All you do, Steve, is bullshit, and then run like the coward you are.]

You even _change_ your bullshit, because you forget what you bullshitted
o Steve claims Arlen is only 60% correct where Arlen is 100% correct on material facts
<https://groups.google.com/g/misc.phone.mobile.iphone/c/u7yQ959XPRU/>

Ask any adult on this newsgroup, Steve.
o Very few people back up their facts like I do, Steve.

Almost every thread I author is chock full of screenshots, for example...
o And I dig up the URLs to the software and to the statements, Steve.

So cut your incessant infantile bullshit, Steve.
o Be a man and own up to your own bullshit, Steve.

You're a coward, which I back up in that very thread I listed above.
o You shoot your bullshit - and then you run away like a coward, Steve.

I'm not afraid of facts, Steve... because I don't bullshit
o All you _ever_ do, Steve, is bullshit like there is no tomorrow.

So cut the crap, Steve.
o Act like a man.

You claimed I was 60% wrong in one thread & recently 80% wrong
o And not even once in your life have you listed a single wrong fact

Want proof?
o Remember Steve, I don't bullshit. All you ever do, is bullshit:

Like you did here:
<https://groups.google.com/g/misc.phone.mobile.iphone/c/u7yQ959XPRU/>

Not even once have you ever found a fact from me to be wrong.
o That means your _entire_ belief system is complete bullshit, Steve.

You _hate_ that I proved you wrong on the Qualcomm royalties, for example
o To this day, you _still_ believe Qualcomm royalties went down
(HINT: They went up 113% which Steve is too cowardly to respond to.)

As others noted, you're in the same list you "claim" others are in, as in:
o Type I apologists (nospam) defend Apple to the death
o Type II apologists (sms) bullshit like there is no tomorrow
o Type III apologists (Lewis) are die-hard cultists to the core.

You want to filter me, that's fine, as you won't get the breaking news
o Nor will you get the tutorials (I write scores every year)

When you filter me, you get to bullshit like there is no tomorrow
o And yet, you can't ever find a _single_ fact from me that is wrong.

I get it that you _hate_ that I read your cites and call them out for the
bullshit that they are (e.g., in this thread, where you bullshit us),
and I don't give a shit if you filter me...

But stop your bullshit Steve.
o You've never found even a _single_ fact from me that's wrong.

Not even once.
o So cut the crap.

My credibility on facts is 100% Steve.
o I don't bullshit.

Hi The Real Bev,

I'm asking you to tell Steve, whom you seem to be "buddies" with,
whether you think he's correct that I'm only 20% correct on facts.

I'm not telling you what to say; but I will note what you don't say.
o And that means more to me than what you say.

Anyone who let's Steve bullshit like he does, is a coward, IMHO.

If the adults on this ng don't stand up to these bullshitters
o Then that tells me everything I need to know about them.
--
I'm standing up for facts as I'm allergic to bullshitters like Steve.

Cut the crap Steve.
o You're a consummate bullshitter.

While I realize the adults on this newsgroup are cowards
o I'm not.

I stand up to your incessant infantile bullshit, Steve.

Everyone who is an _adult_ on this newsgroup knows I cite my facts.
o Not a single person on this newsgroup has _ever_ found my facts wrong.

So cut the crap Steve.
o You claim I'm 80% wrong, and yet you can't find a _single_ wrong fact.

Not even once has _anyone_ found my facts wrong.
o Certainly not you, Steve.

If's it's really that I'm 80% wrong Steve...
o Why can't you cite even a single instance, Steve?

That's the classic mark of a bullshitter, Steve.
o You make everything up hoping the adults will be cowards

I agree the adults here are cowards who don't defend anyone else but the trolls
o But that doesn't change the fact your entire claim is bullshit.
--
I don't bullshit, and yet, this bullshitter Steve seems to always bullshit.

Hi The Real Bev,

Steve bullshits like there is no tomorrow, where _he_ brought up my name,
where he first claimed I'm 40% wrong, and then 80% wrong on facts.

*The _adults_ on this newsgroup never come to the defense of other adults.*

Hence, I ask you directly, one adult to another.

1. Have you ever seen _any_ of my facts to be wrong on this newsgroup?
(if so, please name the fact, and please be advised a fact is different
than an opinion, e.g., it's a fact iPhones don't have sdcards, but
it's an opinion that Apple does that so you are forced to depend on
    the cloud).

2. Steve says I don't substantiate my facts.
Whom do you know on this newsgroup who supports their facts with cites
more than I do, The Real Bev?

What irks me is I pour my heart and soul into this newsgroup, and worthless
pieces of shit like Steve Scharf piss all over that effort, claiming, sans
even a _single_ fact, that 80% of my facts are wrong.

What hurts isn't that Steve said that, as he's a worthless piece of shit.
o What hurts is that the _adults_ on this newsgroup don't defend the facts.

Are there _any_ adults on this newsgroup?
--
Adults should come to the defense of other adults; otherwise, it's just the
trolls piling on like Bob F. where, if you want to see what he writes, look
at the facts: <<https://i.postimg.cc/wvff63gX/bobf01.jpg>>
