Answers I know are carrier-dependent (T-Mo and PagePlus). Which is your carrier? Yeah, that's the right answer. Shame on me for not figuring it out. Though with AT&T (and why not others?) I don't have to have the phone off. I just have to not answer. They do this every couple of months, so no hurry. Direct from Ooma it's
$99 plus $10 shipping, and there's probably the same $10 shipping
attached. They gave us the premium service free for a year if we signed
up for a year, and excused the other fees. Maybe they're not as
generous now.

Charter. Internet only. $50/month after haggling. They aren't as
willing to cut the price as they used to be. I don't know hether that's
because AT&T isn't viable competition (costs more for less speed) or
because they can't afford to.

Yes. The base station plugs into the router and the cordless satellites
go wherever you want them. Mainly the bathroom :-(

We bought a variety of cordless phone systems at yard sales. Most of
them worked, they just had unpleasant quirks. We settled on a Panasonic
set, but we recycled other Panasonics.

Those talk to the router, right? Phone shouldn't matter.

I can't see any reason to change what we have either.

Phone shouldn't matter. No, wireless, not wi-fi. I know the phone doesn't matter. I'm just blabbing about planning ahead, but I put it in parentheses. There's a little transmitter plugged into the sound jack on the back of the computer. The local speakers are plugged in too, with a Y-connector. I bought two sets, and a 5th one at a hamfest, and at least one has failed I think, so to keep the minimum number I need (4) and have extra for the next failure, I bought a different brand and it was so much louder. But finally I noticed if I turned the volume up on the computer itself, the smaller ones were loud enough also! There are 4 or 5 volume controls in a row, now. RadioMaximus, Youtube, and webvideos have one. The volume mixer has one, but I don't understand its relation to the next one, and I think it changed between XP and Vista. There's the speaker icon in the systray. There might be a volume on the transmitter. And there is a volume control on the speakers. So adjusting the volume can be easy or complicated. >> I don't think my TV system will stay the same for the next 25 years, but >> I can't predict the changes either. With Ooma, it's an additional service. With the VOIP service I had before switching to Ooma, which was Optimum Cable, they made it clear that you couldn't fax with their service and they were right.
