#22482 — outlook account not showing up i contacts and calendar

Now the thing has happened that i already feared and hope there is some help 
as i am devastated ...

Using Android 4.2.2 jelly beans (German Version) on a Samsung gt-i9235 flip 
phone.

In the past years i had used Microsofts so-called outlook.com APP that made 
an account type named "outlook.com" available.
This made it possible to correctly sync multiple calendars + contacts of 
that outlook.com account, in my case a microsoft account with the suffix 
@live.de

Now finally MS  forced me to use the outlook app instead (Version 1.3.9 (84) 
mainline)

Now an account type named OUTLOOK shows up in androids settings and in there 
i find the details of my account,
but samsungs native calender app and the contacts DO NOT SEE THIS ACCOUNT.

This effectively renders my phone useless als contacts and calendars no 
longer sync.

Does anyone have some workaround ... any solution?

You shouldn't need a specific outlook client.

Have you tried adding a 'Corporate' or 'Exchange' account within
Settings -> Accounts using your live.de settings? I used this on my
previous Samsung with Android 4.1x which worked reasonably well with S
Planner - except I couldn't edit events on the phone that were created
by Outlook.

Yep i tried that ... my version of Android 4.2.2 (and maybe it also has 
something to do with the firmware of the phone) lets me add a "microsoft 
exchange" account and i can enter my @live.de credentials there. When i do 
this in Androids settings ---> accounts, at 1st glance all seems well.
But contacts will only sync at the first time and only the main calendar is 
visible in s-planner.
Further contacts will not sync and neither further calendar events.
So i was happy with installing the outlook.com app - i never used the app 
but it created an account type named "outlook.com" in androids settings that 
worked.
As stated the newer app named outlook does not work in that way - it will 
show me an account type named "outlook" but this is invisible in s-planner 
and contacts.
Really don't know if MS does this on purpose to force people to use the app 
or if it simply is a persisting bug.

For the moment i did a workaround by uninstalling outlook and i looked for 
the APK file of outlook.com and found apk file versio
outlook.com-7-8-2-12-49-9774
and installed this ind it works for the moment.
The google play store always prompts to update and if doing so, it will 
uninstall outlook.com and force to install outlook.
Anyhow for now i have my phone back working but this definately is no long 
term solution as ms might turn off some EAS sync feature with the old 
outlook.com app.

Dont know if a newer version of Android would fix all this but samsung does 
not offer one for the gt-i9235.
Anyhow, tnx for the reply.

That's a shame. I do know some people had unresolved problems at work, 
but it didn't affect me.

Apparently, the 'new' outlook is a completely different application 
which MS bought and then skinned to make it look like Outlook.

Whether or not things will improve is anyone's guess. Mine will be that 
they won't.

I have no problems with the Android exchange connections in my newer 
Android 4.4x

You could have a look at see if cyanogen mod has newer version of 
Android available for your phone, but it will invalidate any warranty 
and may not come with the exchange software.

For the Samsung Galaxy Golden GT-i9235 i spotted some kitkat 4.4 version of 
cyanogen.
However i don't really want to try this .... some people say that 4.4 has 
problems with VPNs and IPv6 tunnels - on some occasions i have to use these. 
(using an ipv6 tunnel broker to connect to my home router)

So i guess i will just wait and for now continue using the outlook.com app.
On my desktop PC i use the WLM (Windows Live Mail) that unfortunately is 
endangered by EOL which i dont understand ...
as in my opinion it is the only full featured Windows eMail client that can 
properly sync MS accounts calendar and contacts, and can handle multiple 
pop3 and IMAP accounts and stores each message in a single file. And the 
contact / calendar sync to Android always was a good thing for me.
Shame that one has to spend time and nerves keeping things that work well up 
and running :-(
