There you are - I don't know what to look for! So - for a current 'phone, you'd look for 4G/32G, and maybe 4G (I don't think I'd be worried about 4G). Yes, I was surprised at how low the resolution was. The battery on my 300 lasted 6h40 yesterday - that's actually on; but you're right, not long even in standby (I'd not expect much over a day). But then at under 40 as opposed to getting on for 600 pounds ... (-: -- J. P. Gilliver. UMRA: 1960/<1985 MB++G()AL-IS-Ch++(p)Ar@T+H+Sh0!:`)DNAf science is not intended to be foolproof. Wouldn't you like to do what the young Turks do? They walk through busy shopping centres with earphones, and talk loudly to themselves; so that everybody has to turn and listen. Or they stride purposefully up and down outside a bank, with a mobile pressed to their ear, banging into one and all while they tell mum that they'll be home for tea. Or the women with mobile phones! Sheeshh! This is the new woman, born with a mobile hanging from her ear, and wending her way through streets with a new way of walking. Yes, it's all waiting for you if you just sign up. Ed

If you don't want/need the latest-and-greatest - especially no expensive cameras, etc. -, the annual cost can be quite reasonable. For me, cost over the last five years, for two phones, excluding the cost of two 32GB MicroSD cards, was 160 Euro. So with the cards and some paid apps thrown in, that would be some 50 Euro per year. That low cost is why I tried Android - instead of iDevices - in the first place and why I'm sticking to Android, despite its quirks. No way an iDevice could come even remotely close to that low cost. What to do with the superseded phones? Because that's becoming a common problem (also I dislike throwing stuff away), you'll see information/recommendations on that very subject, in the mainstream media. Some examples are: - Portable WiFi hotspot - 'GPS' (navigation device) - Music player - eReader (for eBooks) - Podcasts - RSS reader For example I've turned one of my Android tablets into a audio/video Media Center, which can stream audio/video to my sound-system and TV. I happened to have a spare tablet, but I could have done the same with a spare phone.

So I just got a new phone whether I needed it or not. Silly to pay for it and not get one. Now my postpaid Verizon plan is like the phones/plans at the Target store. Pick a phone for known $$ and add a plan for known $$. No surprises. And best, my phone is over the two year mark now and I still like it so no reason to get another. It's on Android 7.0 and had its last update almost a year ago so I'm thinking it's likely there are no more coming. In a few years there will probably be a discussion here about my ancient Android version 7.0... ;)
