I've never seen airplane mode on anything that didn't have WiFi, but I have seen it on devices that don't have cellular radios. -- Cheers, Daniel.

More of a guide really. I also get the impression some - Android internal? - some register as they should. Also note that even switched off a battery will lose charge. Can't expect it not to when on for 14 hours. Hard to say whether a 38% loss is acceptable or not. Try repeating it a few times. Is it consistent?

2% loss overnight with the phone off. Additional 1% since I turned it
on to actually do something an hour ago, and then went back to
airplane+screen off.
I'd really like to see what's causing the difference between the total
battery use and the sum of the uses of the screen, apps, etc.
I've had it for 16 months. I think I've got one more year (Thanks, Best
Buy!) of warranty replacement, so I can wait a while.

Normal wear and tear is never covered nor are parts which normally degrade with use e.g. tyres, break pads.

The nice thing about buying an Apple phone is that if you buy their $99 warranty extension you're entitled to two hardware replacement episodes as I recall. Now while a bad battery of-itself might not qualify for a $49 device replacement, most people can lay hands on a rock or a hammer to upgrade the level of defectiveness to one covered by their $49 device replacement, and some few deviant types might take pleasure in expressing their opinion in a "mechanical" way. I'm not sure how to calculate that, can you replace one battery for $49 or two for $99? Note that the details are up to you to verify or falsify as you choose. Whatever, I'm quite satisfied with my iPhone SE, it is after all just a telephone, and all things considered, it's less annoying to use than my previous BlackBerry Classic. -- http://totally-portable-software.blogspot.com [Sat Mar 26: "Documentation and Portability"]

The 'battery' section of the 'settings' page doesn't seem to report
everything. If I use a battery-heavy app like Osmand that will get
reported, but as I mentioned above, there seem to be invisible things
using the battery. Sometimes there are references to various android
internals, but not in the above case :-(

Sat overnight in airplane mode and only dropped 1%. I guess 'flakey' is
better than 'always drains too much'.
