How about the Essential Plan? is that a good deal for the UK? Which 
network do they use in the UK?

Last time I was in Europe in 2019 I got a Vodafone SIM card that charged 
(up to) £1/day for 500MB. We were there for about 10 days so it was £10. 
Actually less since we didn't always use enough data to get to the £1 
charge. Something like the Lebara plan would have been better.

I could have done better by waiting until I arrived, but the good thing 
about the Vodafone cards was that I could purchase and activate them in 
the U.S. so we had service as soon as we landed in Italy.

I suspect that in the UK, just as in the US, a lot of people just aren't 
that aware of the vast differences in rates between carriers and between 
MVNOs. We have one MVNO here, Consumer Cellular, that advertises 
extensively but whose rates are quite high. But their customers don't 
realize that the prices are high since Consumer Cellular compares 
themselves against the prices of top tier carriers, not against the 
prices of other MVNOs.
