Yes, the tablet may work with regulated 5V. However some Android devices don't work with a LiIon battery present. I had this issue with an old "Archos 35 Home Connect" (<https://arnowelzel.de/en/android-on-a-clock-radio>). The battery once didn't work any longer and I decided to remove the battery and use the device with external power only since the device was stationary anyway. However that didn't work.
