They do nothing of the sort.

And running slower for a moment when the phone is
very cold and there is a higher than normal demand
on the very cold battery is in fact doing the exact
opposite, avoiding any need for a new battery.

The problem isnt the battery, it’s the DC-DC converter.

And the proof of that is that the later phones don’t have
that problem with the phone shutting down on a higher
than usual power demand when the phone is very cold.
