A study conducted in April by Symantec, the world's biggest cybersecurity firm,
found that computer-system invaders attacked 43 per cent of global mining, oil
and gas companies at least once last year. In a separate survey the same month,
conducted for the Organization of American States by another security company,
Trend Micro, 47 per cent of energy organisations reported attacks, the highest
among all corporate sectors and surpassed only by governments.

I agree taking down the oil industry would bring about the end of
western civilization.  But I think this is simply about trying to crack
into systems that belong to industries likely to have money.  If you and
your baddies had to choose between hacking some little NGO or hacking
Exxon, you'd probably decide Exxon was the juicier target.

On the other hand, Exxon would probably have better systems in place and
better armed lawyers ready to rip you a new asshole ...

Actually, I'm not assuming anything about your motivation. That 
was the neutral you.  Maybe I should have said "if one ..." 
instead of "if you ..." etc.

Just had a look at alt.hackers.malicious.  What a cesspool.  Not even clear
anyone is doing anything more interesting than sniping at each other, like a
mini-version of c.o.l.a.
