A few weeks back I managed to pick up an incredibly rare laptop in immaculate
condition for $50 on Kijiji: a Tadpole Technologies SPARCbook 3000ST from 1997
(it also came with two other working Pentium laptops from the 1990s). So, what
makes this the coolest laptop of the 1990s? I used to long for a Tadpole SPARC
laptop about 15 years ago, when they came with dual processor models. Amazing
technology.

I ran Sun SPARC workstations as my home computers for a long time, starting
with a SPARCstation 1+ and finally stopping with a SunBlade 2000.

There was a tadpole sparcbook in the lab I worked at, maybe around 93/94 if
memory is working.  And there was also a non-sun-micro sparc workstation 
'clone' made by a korean company, but I've forgotton the name of the make.
And we had a real NeXT cube!

The tadpole was a nice laptop, looked a bit like my old Tosh 3100/386.
A few years later I had a powerpc thinkpad (IBM, before lenovo)
which ran AIX.  Sadly those were withdrawn after 2 or 3 years.

Of course around the same time we were starting to put early versions
of linux onto x86 thinkpads.

I worked with a Tadpole in the mid 90's.  A nice bit of kit, but it 
didn't work too well when it got warm, either because you were working 
it hard, or if you were in a warm place.
