Unless you are logging in, and cookies are used as the login tracking
mechanism, then you as a site viewer never need cookies at all.

The site authors think you need them because they use them to sell you
to their advertisers.  Remember, like with broadcast TV, you are not
the customer, you are the product.  The customers are the advertisers,
and cookies give the advertisers something to build their statistics
upon.
