They used to work on GNOME 2, but not with GNOME 3. (Using > Debian Wheezy). I waste a lot of time looking for files I need to > frequently edit. > []'s I had a look at the screenshots and wasn't overly impressed. They are messing with menus and stuff in a way that looks pretty (in fact it looks very much inspired by those floating menus that iOS uses) but at the expense of introducing extra keystrokes or mouse clicks to get stuff done. If you follow the link through to that Silencio guy's blog (http://blogs.gnome.org/pbor/2014/02/20/gedit-new-look/) I think this comment is pretty appropriate for the other changes made as well: "The first picture looks wrong. Instead of having two buttons next to each other, there’s a drop-down list. Therefore instead of one action to switch (click a button), I need two actions (click the list, click the item). The drop-down list should be displayed only when there’s not enough horizontal space for the buttons to be displayed next to each other (I’m assuming that extensions can add additional buttons)." It does *look* nice, but unfortunately that's not what I ask of my software. (I still use Xemacs sometimes, and it's frikkin' ugly, let's face it).
