Maybe the mobile ecosystem overlords are ready to start trivializing the
network operators. The operators simply provide connectivity to the
networks and offer their packages in the appstores. You can switch
operators every day or become a regular subscriber.

I am all for the operators becoming commodity bitpipe suppliers.

However, we then have the ecosystem overlords that you are stuck with
once you buy a mobile device. There is no business in hardware anymore.
However, owning a major ecosystem makes everybody in the world work for
you as you get a handsome share of every transaction of every kind.

At some point the regulators must step in to trivialize the ecosystems
the same way. You should be allowed to use a number of competing
ecosystems regardless of the device you buy.
