No, I mean that the developers of OSX choose RichText for *their* lowest common denominator, thinking "why would anyone ever want plain text?"  Whereas, for Usenet, plain text is the correct format.  That would explain why OSX would facilitate rich text format in things like copy-paste.  Unix on the other hands prefers plain text, as do I, in a nice, ugly, monospaced font :)
