Hi there,

I am using ghostscript on Windows system. The ghostscript 9.21 for
Windows don't have Resource directory. So, my question is, where I can
place custom CMap file and corresponding CIDfont. In my case, I hope to
use SourceHanSerifSC-Regular.otf and the correspoinding CMap file
UniSourceHanSerifCN-UTF8-H.

Thanks for any suggestions and hints.

Best,
Jinsong

The Windows version of Ghostscript uses a ROM file system by default.
You need to get a copy of the source code, add the files to the relevant
sub-directories of ghostpdl/Resource and then either :

1) rebuild Ghostscript so that the ROM file system contains the new
files. You could also rebuild Ghostscript so that it doesn't use the ROM
file system and then use option 2 below, but there's no great advantage
to that.

Or

2) Use the existing binary but tell Ghostscript to include an external
path in its search for resources, using the -I switch to add your
modified directory tree to the search.

Thank you very much for the explanation. However, it's not easy to
rebuild Ghostscript on Windows. Do you have any plan or option to
provide the Ghostscript that doesn't use the ROM file system?

Thanks again.

Jinsong

I don't see why not. Get hold of a copy of Visual Studio from Microsoft;
the community edition can be downlaoded for free, and Ghostscript
qualifies for using it, as its open source.

Open the ghostpdl.sln file, and allow VS to update it. Then just compile
the Ghostscript project. If you prefer command lines, then open the VS
command shell from the start menu, navigate to the ghostpdl directory
and "nmake -f psi/msvc.mak"

No. As I said before, you need not even rebuild Ghostscript. You *will*
need the source code, because that's where the resource files can be
found.

Once you have thosse file locally, modify them as you see fit and then
use the -I switch to tell Ghostscript to 'Include' those files. if you
read the documentation here:

https://ghostscript.com/doc/9.21/Use.htm#Finding_files

then you will see that Ghostscript will search for resrouce files
in the Included (-I) directories before it searches the ROM file system.

If its too much work to specify the directory on the command line every
time, then you can set the GS_LIB environment variable, which *still*
gets searched before the ROM file system.

Thank you very much. It works. It's convenient for me to use some
special fonts for a specific situation.

Jinsong

You can add fonts even without the resource files, its in the
documentation.
