Hello, I updated from gs9.10 to gs9.15. The eps2eps script now invokes ps2write, which creates much better quality eps files, but when I load such a file into Adobe Illustrator, this complains about fonts missing. (AI CS6, on Windows 7 prof. 32bit) Shouldn't eps2eps embed the fonts embedded in the pdf? If converted with the option -dCompressFonts=false , Adobe Illustrator reads the eps without complaining about missing fonts. But it still displays some characters incorrectly, e.g. the "notequal" sign. The original pdf is imported correctly in AI. Are there any parameters or switches in gs which make the produced eps compatible with AI (and other applications? -- Wilfried Hennings please reply in the newsgroup, the e-mail address is invalid

Then that suggests that Illustrator's PostScript import has a problem, all that option does is not compress fonts. Most likely whatever Illustrator uses to find fonts is unable to detect the presence of the fonts when they are compressed. (but then, it shouldn't be trying to find them in the first place) > Are there any parameters or switches in gs which make the produced eps > compatible with AI (and other applications? Oh yes, you want the '-dMagicNoErrors' switch..... Seriously, EPS files are meant to be treated as a black box by consumers, they shouldn't be doing anything with them at all. It is possible there is a problem, but I certainly can't work out whether there is or not without seeing an example. Your best bet is to create a nice small example of the problem (one font, just a couple of characters) which Illustrator is unhappy with and open a bug report with that example file. Ken

Thank you for your reply.
While trying to prepare a small example it turned out that most probably
it is not a Ghostscript problem.
I start with a small LaTeX file containing a formula:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
\documentclass[12pt]{book}
\thispagestyle{empty}
\begin{document}
\setcounter{equation}{0}
$
\lambda \neq 0
$
\end{document}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1) The LaTeX file is compiled by pdflatex (MikTeX 2.9).
The resulting pdf displays correctly in pdf viewers, but not in AI CS6.
In AI CS6 the eps resulting from eps2eps (gs9.15) looks like the pdf.
2) The LaTeX file is compiled by latex and the dvi file is converted by
"dvips -q -l 1 -E -R".
In AI CS6 the eps resulting from this looks like the pdf.
Somehow the fonts embedded in the pdf and in the eps by MikTeX are not
correcty interpreted by AI.
Closing this thread, perhaps continuing in comp.text.tex
