It does, if they are present in the original file.

Then that suggests that Illustrator's PostScript import has a problem, 
all that option does is not compress fonts. Most likely whatever 
Illustrator uses to find fonts is unable to detect the presence of the 
fonts when they are compressed. (but then, it shouldn't be trying to 
find them in the first place)

Oh yes, you want the '-dMagicNoErrors' switch.....

Seriously, EPS files are meant to be treated as a black box by 
consumers, they shouldn't be doing anything with them at all.

It is possible there is a problem, but I certainly can't work out 
whether there is or not without seeing an example.

Your best bet is to create a nice small example of the problem (one 
font, just a couple of characters) which Illustrator is unhappy with and 
open a bug report with that example file.
